Not sure if anyone has posted this before, but here it is;
I have been testing some primers that you can find a Wal-Mart, K-mart and home centers. I’ve been getting tired of paying almost 5 dollars for a small can of primer so I picked up a can of Rust-Oleum Painters Touch sandable primer and have been testing it on some old kits parts.
Well this stuff works great, it drys within 15 minutes and shrinks on to the plastic and can be wet/dry sanded with no problems. I would compare it to the Tamiya primer which i like. But Tamiya’s primer is $ 5.00 for a 6 oz can while the R/O is $4.50 for a 12oz can. The only thing is, the R/O grey is a bit darker than the Tamiya’s. Next time I hit Home Depot I am going to see if they have White primer.

It is great stuff. I’m also a fan of Krylon’s primer. But lately I’ve been airbrushing on my primer.
They do have white. I use the “special” for plastic white primer. It works very well. you can sand it and you get a good finish (from out of a can).
I have a can of their white plastic primer as well. It is good stuff. I save it mostly for 1/72 plastic figures though.
I’ve started using the spray can primer from Wal-Mart. I had some problems with the acrylics peeling off. So far, so good.
I use Humbrol primer and Games-Workshop primer the GW one is somewhat expensive but comes in a fairly big 400ml can it can either be black or white in colour too.
Just to toss this in, even though it is slightly off topic, Tamiya has two grades of primer. The gray primer is their “Regular” surface primer, but they also have some “Fine” surface primer that is white. I’ve used both and the white is somewhat finer in grain than the gray. When it dries the finish is sort of a semi-gloss whereas the gray is pretty flat.
I may give the Rust-Oleum a try. I’m not a real big fan of Krylon and normally use Tamiya. A can of that will typically get me through two 1/32 scale jets so if goes a long way.
