Hello all!
I am new to doing armor, having mainly done sci-fi, but have always loved tanks! I am going to start with some simple oob builds, but while reading through a couple reference books, I came across this color for russian tanks.

I know these are only drawings, but is this historically accurate? Were these colors used? It’d be a break from all the green tanks I see!
I’d love any info, links, or photos anyone has about different colors used by the russian army (other than whitewashing) during WWII.
Thanks for the help!
Chris
This drives me nuts when authors and publishers do this. As far as I kow, there is no documented evidence of anything but green being used on Russian WWII armor.
There have been some used in Middle Eastern wars by various countries, and they would have probably sported desert-color schemes, but this is largely fantasy for WWII.
“All the green tanks…”??? Do some German armor–LOTS of different schemes and patterns to choose from!
Yeah, I will do German, I am sure, and some Italian, British, etc. But I want to do a ton (no pun intended) of Russian stuff. T-35/76, T-34/85, SU-76, KV-1…the list goes on and on!
I am sorry to hear this may be an author’s flight of fancy. It looks sooo good on these vehicles! I’d love to see or hear any other opinions.

Hey Chris welcome to the ‘Dark Side’.
Here’s a couple of links for some color plates of German and Russian tanks and other vehicles. I’m sure it will give you a few ideas.

Hey, thanks for the link! Good reference materials there for sure!
As for the ‘dark side’, well…I have always loved armor. I grew up about 15 miles from Ft. Knox, and was in the Army as well, just not in an Armor unit.
Went to my first IPMS meeting on Thursday night, I was the only guy there with a spaceship! Brought a Brid of Prey I had finished a few days before. LOts of armor and wingy thingies there!
More links please!
Chris
Okay Last one for tonight then it’s my bedtime, going to a show tomorrow.
