Russian T34/ 76 Early or Late

Hi All,
I am looking for a nice kit for the T34/ 76. Any ideas on the best kit for this great tank? I am looking for a complete kit with good deatils and tracks. I do not want to spend extra $$$ for tracks and PE. Thank you!

There is one made by Tamiya (#35149), two by Dragon (#6092 and 6205) and another one by Zvesda (#3525) but I didn’t build those ones. Zvesda also has another version with mine rollers (#3580) Again, I cannot comment on these cause I didn’t built them yet but I plan to buy one of the Dragon kit cause they are usually well detailed and not too expensive for what you get.

Maybe there is other models but I don’t know them.

There have actually been three T34/76 variants by Tamiya: a 1942 model “low” turret, a 1943 “hexagonal” turret and a late 1943 “Chtz” with a more rounded “high” turret. However they are all based on the same basic hull which dates from the early 70’s. Fairly simple kits, but when finished still look like T-34s.

There are three Dragon T34/76s which are all very recent moulds.

Dragon’s T-34/76 line is the newest, most accurate and cheapest ones around. Many include aluminum barrels and all include individual tracks. Some include photo etched details as well. Here is a review site: http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/dragon/dragon.htm

Tamiya’s is ancient and inaccurate, but easy to assemble.

Zvezda’s were among the best until Dragon’s kits but the tracks were stiff and needed to be replaced. They were a strange 2-piece vinyl design.

Maquette had accurate, but crude T-34s that take a lot of TLC and aftermarket items or scratch building skills to make look good.

Is anyone else wishing Dragon would do a '43 model T-34 in 1/35?

Thanks for the info I just found the http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com site and it has some really good info. I will buy one of the DML kits they are good value! Thanks again!

If you want a 1943 hex turret version (I think they were the ones used at kursk), tank workshop makes a nice resin turret/interior set which you can use to convert the dragon kits. The dragon kits also has a good line of existing AM sets for them. Namely a lion roar PE set and verlinden interiors.

I sure do, but my wallet wishes the other way…

A 3 in 1 kit would be great!

 Way out of my model budget!

All the T-34/76 kits named here make different varaints of these machines. The Dragon kits probably are the closest to what you want but you get what you pay for. I have built the Tamiya and Zvezda kits and they build out well enough but have their vices too(Zvezda stiff tracks, fit of lower to upper hull, Tamiya, motorization hull, some hull items/fittings). I have just purchased a couple of the Dragon kits and will be starting them soon. They sure are beauties! If youre not looking for any particular variant and dont want to spend higher prices The Tamiya T-36/76 model 43 is a good starting point. Two different turret roof choices, armored fuel boxes or unarmored fuel cylinders, and lots of accesories to dress out the hull… unditching beams, ice cleats, tarps, grab rails. All in all it builds out very nicely.

Absolutely! I’m waiting patiently for a 1942 version. I thought it would be a no-brainer since they have the 40 & 41. I’ll take either though, I’m not too greedy. Oh…yes I am. [:D]

These are a few of my completed T-34/76’s…

I do love these things…[:D]

Tamiya T-34/76 Model 1942. Zvezda crew figures (built 1995)

Tamiya T-34/76 Model 1943, late cupola, kit crew figure. (built 1988)

Tamiya T-34/76 Model 1943 early turret hatches, kit crew figures (built 1987)

Zvezda T-34/76 Model 1943, early hatches (completed last month)

[:(] oops… gotta do some corrrecting on posting them I see…

[:D]with some help from my kid…SUCCESS!!!

No, but it is necessary! Otherwise, that server would be overloaded.

These are excellant builds, stickpusher. I love these T-34.

Yes I’m sure you are right there about the server being overloaded. And thanks for the compliment on the kits.

Nice work Stikpusher.

Sorry, don’t mean to go OT here, but Yann, you’ll love the Wespe. Great kit. I got another on the shelf to do a tri-color camo on someday.

Yeah! I love it already, can’t wait to build it but be prepare to answer question, I heard you were an expert![;)]
