Russian Cockpit Colors

Hi,
any information you can share with me about the subject? I’m building a Sukhoi 9-B (early 60’s). I think cockpit color is dark gray but i would like to verify. also, because I have some MiG’s, Sukhoi’s and Yak’s from WWII to present lined up waiting for building!
thanks

Most modern Russain jets have a light blue/light green cockpit.
But it’s really very bright blue, sometimes even glossy and with bronze coloured edges.
You can just paint them light blue, but Model Master makes Russian Jets Cockpit blue.

Cheers,

Jürgen

Hi,

Forgot to say:

Most Sukhoi’s have light blue cockpits.
And most Mig’s have light grey cockpits.

Cheers,

Jürgen

I know many cockpits of Russian planes in WWII were green. They were a green that was lighter than olive drab.

Yeah… Italeri makes a cockpit blue/green, an it is for most modern fighters, but some Sukhoi’s have grey cockpit interior… in the Italeri Su-27’s instruction sheet it is Light Ghost Gray… and Dark ghost Gray for the Mig-29’s cockpit interior… well, I have the Dragon Mig-15 (Jian J-2) and in the instruction sheet says “Aircraft gray”… somebody told me that this color is correct…

Mig jets originally had gray cockpits with little thought to pilot comfort. Later on, the Russian VIPs finally accepted the fact that creature comfort for the pilot was important for the pilot to keep that razor edge necessary for aerial combat. They started painting the cockpits a light blue green. I am not sure, but I think this transition started in the late sixties, maybe early seventies. Model Master had the exact color #2135 called Interior Blue/Green in the Modern Russian series of colors. FS 25299 semi-gloss blue is very close to this color and FS 34227 green is a reasonable substitute, but is a little too green. This color is used in most modern Migs, but I am not sure of the Sukoi series.

This site has some color photos of cockpit interiors. Which includes an Su-7 and Su-15 which would most likely be similar to your Su-9 since same manufacturer and era. They appear to be light blue to me but judge for yourself.
