Russian Blue (Humbrol)

Modelers, I’ve finally found the scheme I want to use for my MIG-15bis. The scheme calls out Humbrol 115 Russian Blue. However, I look this up to hopefully find an equivilent in another brand and it says this color is discontinued. Does anyone by chance know what other brand of blue could pass as this color?

Thanks.

I will check first hand for you tomorrow (friday)

Here’s a good link I found recently:
http://www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/portland/971/reference/humbrol.htm

Humbrol 115 unfortunately isn’t mentioned here[xx(] but you may find it useful another time.
Then there’s this one from IPMS Stockholm, which is also a bit inconclusive in your case:

And finally there’s this one:
http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_humbrol.htm
which leads us to believe there’s no current equivolent available. Your best bet might be to check your references to see which USSR color matches the one you’re looking for and then go with the mixing instructions mentioned in the second link. Good luck!

It corresponds to Vallejo 972

It says Light Blue Green, but can’t really make out the color on this one:

Maybe your LHS will have color chips catalog and will be able to find some replacement.

Hope this helps,
Borislav

If you turn the Vallejo 972 into their model air colour, then it would correspond to number 008, which in turn can be considered the same as RLM 65. Then you have the choice of which paint manufacturer you prefer.

Thanks for the info gentlemen.

Dgarrington, how did you make the connection from v972 to RLM65?

Bones, you could use Tamiya XF-23 for the underside blue. It’s a little lighter than Humbrol but this should be OK since paints darken considerably when over-coated for decaling.
