Russian Blue Green

Hey guys, im about to start my mig-21-PFM and ive been doing a wee bit of research. does anyone know where i can get those funny blue greens the russians use? i use mainly tamiya as anything else is hard to come by here. cheers for the help guys

You will probably have to mix it yourself if you can only get Tamiya paints. Xtracolor and Testors both make the shade in their lines if you by chance have access to those.

Ill see what i can find this weekend. most probably no. any idea what the mix is? or at least something to get me started?

Also does anyone know if this colour scheme would ever have existed?

Its labeled MiG-21PFM Soviet Air Force (Kubinka) And when i google that it comes up with alot of stuff from the russian knights.

I have read that those colors were on a late 60s/early 70s era Soviet aerobatic team. I have never seen photos to verify the markings.

As far as the interior color goes, all I can suggest is starting from a sky blue base color and add some lime green till you get a turquoise to aqua shade. If you ahve some photos of the actual color, it will help greatly.

OK I just found this video… yes it was real…

Cheers stik. Hope to get started on this next week. WIP shots will be in the rocket power GB thread

If you can find it, Testors Model Masters includes a line of Russian colors; the color you’re looking for is “USSR Interior Blue Green.” It’s kind of an aqua or turquoise color.

Hi Scorpiomikey,

I hope I can add some value to your quest. I’m a huge fan of Russian aircraft (especially the 50’s/ 60’s’ era jets) and have long been challenged to mix the correct shade of blue-green. I’m sure by now you’ve seen the many cockpit photo’s available on the web, in particular those taken by our fellow aviation enthusiasts in Poland and the Czech Republic who are/were operating Russian aircraft in their Air Forces, and have an idea of the color used. In my humble opinion, GN Glacier Green by Poly Scale (in their Model Railroad Color line) is a nice match for a 1/48 scale effect. Model Master #2135, Russian Interior Blue/Green is also a good match (it’s a bit darker than the Poly Scale brand).

Best of luck and I’m looking forward to seeing your MiG come together.

Empty Sprue’s!!!

Try X-13 metallic blue and X-25 clear green or Xf-5 and play around with it…I kinda have an idea of the color you want. Maybe even XF-71, cockpit green and some X-13…experiment a little you`ll get it!
