I’m looking for some modern AAA systems, such as the Russian S-60 57mm (with associated radar if possible) or any others you may know of.
So far I’ve found ZSU-23-4 (DML), 2S6 (limited run resin), and Gepard, but what I’m really looking for is to make a AAA site vignette with some guns and an off-carriage radar.
In fact, does anyone know of ANY off carriage radar systems out there (modern) - it would be nice to have a FAN SONG to go with my Trumpeter SA-2 or a STRAIGHT FLUSH to go with the DML SA-6 TEL. The only one I’ve seen is the 1/72 FLAP LID that goes with the S-300 (SA-10) from PST models.
Skif makes a BTR-152 with a twin gun mount in 1/35 scale and Eastern Express had a Gaz truck with a similar mount in the truck bed, also in 1/35 scale. I’m not sure of the gun nomencalture or caliber, either a ZU or ZPU series, 14.5mm or 23mm. I think Squadron has these on their website. Otherwise there is not a whole lot else out there for Soviet/Russian AAA. If your interested for missile systems, Trumpeter has an SA-6 in 1/35, Skif makes the SA-13 in 1/35, and DML makes the SA-9 in 1/35. A Tunguska is supposed to be in the works from Zvezda in 1/35 soon.
Isn’t the 2S6 a self-propelled howitzer? Your subject is “Russian AAA” but the 2S6 isn’t an AA. As someone told you earlier that SKIF has BTR-152 with twin AA guns, SKIF has recently released a BTR-152 w/ Zu-23-2 (23mm guns x2) to complement its earlier version of 14.5mm x 2 guns. Here’s the latest version :
The Eastern Express’s GAZ-66 truck comes with the same guns 23mm x2 but I think this kit is hard to find now :
You’re right! the 2S6 is really the Tunguska. I’ve built one Tunguska in 1:72 scale myself and it was a terrible experience. I was thinking of the 2S1 which is Soviet 122mm S.P. Howitzer when you mentioned the 2S6. You can find most Russian vehicles on my site including the 2S1. Happy modelling!
Great find! That appears to be the Russian P-40 (1S12) “Long Track” radar, a mobile Early warning radar of 60’s vintage, and you’re spot on - right up my alley. Thanks! Man, that thing is a piece of work, no doubt! $350 - yikes! - I’ve never seen so much PE! Guess I’d better sell that kidney…
OK, I dug out my old recognotion/field order of battle handbook. Yes, it is the Long Track target acquisition radar. It is used with the SA-4, SA-6, and SA-8 SAM’s.
I dont know about donating body parts/organs, but maybe Trumpeter may come out with some radars to go with their SAM releases. They do seem to go out of their way to bring different subjects out, which I sure appreciate.
No!! Stick to collecting what other people build, not giving bogus advice.
The 2S6 is the Tanguska AAA system, which includes guns and missiles.
The S series Soviet/Russian howitzers/artillery pieces are the 2S1 122mm, 2S3 152mm, 2S4 240mm SP mortar, 2S5 152mm, 2S7 203mm, 2S9 122mm, and the 2S19 152mm.
I feel your pain. The Panzershop stuff is absolutely spectacular, but so damn expensive. I wish there was a full line of styrene in 1/35 for all Soviet vehicles.
Does anyone know if there is a ZSU-57-2 out there in 1:72 or close scale. I saw one on a list of kits for the shop Jadar Models, made by a company called ARMO. They apparently made a 1:35 of it as well… but is the 1:72 available??
