russian 109s

i recently found this site and have decided to buld a 1/72 russian 109

http://www.xs4all.nl/~tozu/me109/foreign/109-USSR.htm

my questions are it mentions sevral aircraft flown by defected german pilots that had red stars on the fuselage and had red Balkenkreuze on the wings. does anyone have any pics of these aircraft or know how they would have been painted?

thanks

We recently got alot of info newly released from Russian goverment there were some pics but I have not gone through them yet. That’s quite an impressive collection of captured 109 pics on that site I doubt I can do better. I can tell you this I have never seen an captured reich aircraft with red balkenkreuze (crosses) on the fuselage. standered russin policy was to paint over the reich marking completely and paint red stars over that. They flew plenty of reich aircraft in and didn’t want to get one of there own shot down by friendly fire. I’m no expert in reich aircraft in foreign service so it’s quite possible they did, I’ve just haven’t seen this myself. If I turn up anything I’ll post it.

I gotta admit this is a new one on me. I will be looking forward to this thread as it develops.

The bitter irony of flying a German plane against it’s builders could not have been lost on the Russians.

I’ve read that Russian pilots liked the FW190 since it could be treated roughly and flew best at lower altitudes. They weren’t as fond of the 109, on the other hand, because it was an experts plane, sensitive and powerful, yet unforgiving of the laggard pilot in the bargain.

Which 109 kit will you choose?

Sure you can! Just make sure it’s the right type (E,F,G)

i was able to find a mig-3 sheet that had abunch of extra stars and some vac-form canopys
