Russia has reportedly deployed the Kommuna salvage vessel in an attempt to salvage parts of the Moskva. Note the DSRV on the deck

The Kommuna was laid down in 1912, launched in 1913, and commissioned in 1915. It is the sole “active” member of the Imperial Fleet. The Kommuna was a purpose-built catamaran hull with several heavy-lift gantry cranes spanning the well-deck

Conjecture on the mission ranges from attempting to recover cryptological equipment to possible nuclear warheads on the missiles. Regardless, raising some or all of the flagship could be a nationalistic boost.

All that gantry-work looks like a job for 3D printing. It reminds me of the support structures found on many available 3D pieces

Interesting. The catamaran hull is pretty high-tech for a ship of that age. I’m wondering what the depth is at the wreck site.

Report is 45 meters. salvaging nukes would be in everyones interest.

There’s quite a bit about that ship online, won’t requote it here. One thing, it’s the oldest operating commissioned warship.

It seems that the catamaran hull design wasn’t too rare back then for submarine rescue ships. This one was copied from several SMS ships of the time. Seems as though as long as there have been submarines, there have been surface units to rescue the crews.
