Another beautiful propliner of the 1950s, the Bristol Britannia. A very pretty plane, and that BOAC livery is like a tailor-made suit — all planes look sharp in a BOAC outfit.
As for the build, everything went together very tidily and easily, not much sanding and filling, but some. However the only snag proved to be ultra-thin, fragile decals.
Reading about this kit on other forums, I was ready for the thin decals, but I couldn’t believe my eyes when the very first piece I gently slid into the water, the large blue tailfin piece, immediately broke into two pieces without me touching it.
Fortunately I’ve made a habit of scanning every decal sheet I use (just in case …), so I was able to print out some OK-but-not-great backup decals, but this is a model which definitely has a “good” side and an “oh dear” side. You’re looking at the good side, by the way.
Not all the decals were as fragile as the first piece that broke apart, but some did tear and lining up the broken bits was tricky. So be warned, the decals are super-fine and require very careful handling. So, please do scan the decals first, just in case disaster strikes.
