Hi guys,
Have a question about RLM’s.
What are the normal colours for a Bf-109 G-10 ?
And what about a Me-262 and Me-163 : is RLM 76,81,82 correct?
What about the underside: is it RLM65 or 76 with most Luft planes?
I’m not very familiar with Luft planes ( still need to make my first one…)
Cheers,
Jürgen
Flyingraptor;
Have you tried Swanny’s website?, he has an article about the Luftwaffe’s colors and also try this website too
http://www.jpsmodell.de/
he also cover just about all aircraft from all era’s
The Bf 109G-10 is a late-war aircraft. The underside would most probably be RLM 76, but some may have used a blue-green (sometimes called RLM “84”). You can see this color on my Bf 109 K-4 on this page: http://www.pix.prettyneatinc.com/luftgal.htm
The topsides could be RLM 81 (brownviolet), with either RLM 82 (bright green) or RLM 83 (dark green). Some paint manufacturers reverse the numbers on the greens, but one is light and one is dark.
It could also be painted with RLM 75 (grayviolet) and RLM 74 (dark green) on the topsides.
Me 262s were painted with RLM 76 on the lower surfaces. The upper colors were usually RLM 81 with either RLM 82 or 83 (I have one with all three colors). Other Me 262s used both greens on the upper surfaces, with no brownviolet. I have a few Me 262s here: http://www.pix.prettyneatinc.com/262gal.htm
Some Me 163s had the same color possibilities as the Bf 109G-10.
Since it varies from aircraft to aircraft, try to find out what colors were used on the particular aircraft you are building.
Hope this helps (and doesn’t confuse) you !
Like Pix said, it depends on the Aircraft you’re modeling. RLM 65 was not used much after 1940 when the Luftwaffe standardized on the RLM 74/75/76 high altitude scheme for day fighters. As the war progressed, other schemes were introduced & very late war aircraft could be a hodge podge of colors. Many Bf-109G-10’s were done in the RLM 74/75/76 scheme, but many were not, so check references if possible.
Regards, Rick
If you have a look at this page, there is a whole series on late war luftwaffe camo:

If you don’t feel like reading that much, just listen to Pix and Rick. Those two generally know what they are talking about.
