RLM 76 .Best match *Advice needed *

Hello every one…

I need advice on which paint offers the best match for:
Lichblau / RLM 76
Largely used for under surfaces of Me 109 G6’s

Apparently Humbrol #175 was a good match
, but ,has been discontinued
Lifecolor , which is available through Militaryhobbies , is available.
But ,not recommended because of strange behavior with thinners.

Modelmaster II Enamels is a grey area , since I haven’t found any
review on it’s characteristics.

Your advice is greatly appreciated
Mike

I use model master RLM 76 for my RLM 76. [:D] Really I do. Works great. (enamel of course. the acryls i dont have much luck with.)

Yup… what the Tank said.

Mike,

Here is a great site to look at for that information, it has ALL those WWII colors and which model paint companies produce them. http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/colorcharts.asp

Hope this helps,

Tom

As I understand it …
No one can be sure of an exact duplicate pigmentation ,simply due to the many contractors of the time-period, using different base materials.
according to this chart found here http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/colorcharts.asp "
There is 3 tone of Lichblau RLM 76. There is quite a bite of paint mixing using the Humbrol scenario , ThereforeI think I will try my luck with Modelmasters II . I live on Vancouver Isle , it will be a challenge to find these.

Thanks every one & have a great day

Mike

First, [#welcome] to the forums! Pull up a keyboard and stay a while.

Second, where on the island do you live? I lived in Nanaimo from 1967-1985.

Third, do you prefer acrylics or enamels? I’ve used Tamiya XF-23 Light Blue mixed 3:2 with XF2 White.

Fourth, try BC Shaver and Hobby in Victoria (http://www.bcshaver.com). They have a sister store here in Kelowna that stocks Modelmaster acryl and enamel, so I would assume the Victoria store does as well. Failing that send me an email and I can maybe put some on the bus for you.

I use Gunze Sangyo acrylic RLM76, thinned with Tamiya acrylic thinner for airbrushing.

Looks good to my eye, and the finish is as good as you’re going to get IMHO.

I’m a recent convert to acrylics – just finished a tamiya 1/48 FW190 A3 using the Color of Eagles RLM 76 – really easy as the paint comes in an ‘eyedrop’ bottle – you might want to cut it a bit w/ vallejo thinner

Thanks for the tip Bgrigg…
I live in Comox , right outside 19 Wing, on Ryan.
I phoned BC shaver this morning , and yes , they do carry the Modelmaster II line
$ 4.25 Cdn a bottle.
I used both acrylic & enamels before ,and I found out that enamels can stand out better to different weathering techniques. But tht’s just my personnal opinion, though…

You’re welcome. The company I work for printed the dinosaur banners at the Comox Airport. I haven’t been out that way for quite a while. Used to have the odd beer at the FBI (odd as in 3 or 5 [:P])

Hey everyone[^o)]. I know this thread is old, but if anyone is interested I found a color of Krylon spray paint that is a fairly close match to RLM 76 Lichblau (LightBlue). It’s -

Krylon Fusion All-In-One: Matte Vintage Blue.

Standard 12oz. spray paint can. You can find at most major hardware stores (Lowe’s).

Check out these pics and see for yourself. Color on top left is RLM76. Color on top right is the Krylon spray and a couple picks of my FW-190 b i p. Almost done. Needed/Wanted the spray can for this one - easier.
