Rivet detail

In this post, /forums/770317/ShowPost.aspx

I was asking about scribing panel lines on my 1/32 scale p-51d mustang(I realize I had said it was a 1/48, my mistake) Anyway, I have rescribed the panel lines and I am in a bit of a pickle…The raised lines were flanked on either side by rivets. In my cleaning up of my lines many of the rivets haev become damaged, even w/ masking, and some are even sanded off all together.

Does anyone have or know of any techniques that can be used to replace the rivet details? I see 3 possible solutions need a bit of advice though

  1. sand off all rivet detail…the plane will have the correct panel lines, just no rivets

2.sand off all rivets and replace some of them w/ small pin-vise holes?

3.try building up a very small drop of super glue to replace some of the rivet detail?

My inexperience is relly getting the better of me here, but this is how we all get better!

lol…the search button is a great tool, found all I needed and more!!

I tried No. 3, it didn’t work. Superglue, even the thickest, spreads too far even when the surface was pretreated with accelerator.

No. 1 would look good. Consider that a 0.25 inch diameter rivet head is approximately 0.008 inch in 1/32 scale.

For No. 2, you can get tools called pounce wheels from Widget Supply or Micromark, most other online shops, as well as most LHS’s. Done carefully, this will look better than the raised rivets.
