I am on me to decide has to try to realize a barge of riverine battery. I have to buy carrico john’s book, GUN AFLOAT, who already gives me a lot of information, the length and the width of barges, but it is the dimensions(size) of the box which bothers me, I have the dimensions(size) of the boxes of rhino ferry of June 6th, 44, and for me, they are the same but another person here in France also try to build one and put me the doubt because he tells me that those of the barges have no same .alors dimensions(size) when say you?

Pawel, thank you, the barge was built has 6 or 8 copies with 2 M102 installed above, 2 holds has ammunitions, more the sleeping around for the artillerymen, the page of the book gun afloat gives the size of this one, you have the photos of my try of box evergreen, then a real box of rhino and a plan .la barge is established on its length of 15 boxes, similar 2 for the front and the back and 13 remainders are the same and it is those of which I would like to be on of them dimensions.
Heavy arty, yes, I know this platform, great work of Mr Carrico but it is not it, it is the one who was towed by the LCM8 on the mékong for l "support fire.

I have already asked has carrico john, and he tells me that I am right for the dimensions(size), and I wanted all the same to have more opinion(notice) to be on not to make anything. Here are photos of the drawing which I made with 2 howitzers of AFV club to have an idea of the surface of the barge in 1/35, more those of the howitzer with the brake of mouth of this box HOBBY FAN, and the following ones of a box made with the dimensions(size) which gives me the other person who makes her(it) so cardboard visiting card and a figurine to have an idea of size(greatness).
Ah, part of the confusion will be becasue the US Army used both one-piece (to purpose) barges, and the made up from modules “barge units.”
The latter were intended more for creating combat bridges, as the floting parts could be assembled some what like Lego bricks to need.
As part of learning to use those block, Army bridging units had created “barges” to use as ferries, for when that was a better answer for a temporary bridge.
Army bridging units are a fascinating mix of engineers and sappers, with an elan mixed of pragmatism and imporvisation.
The air-portable platform noted above was criticized afterwards as not being very adaptable for waterways with large tidal variations. But, mostly for not having nearly enough room for all the things artillery requires. Which meant needing to detail a “Mike” boat (either an LCM-6 or LCM-8) or a barge to the location. Which rather defeated the whole air-mobile concept of the thing.
The US Navy’s Rivierine forces also complicated this, by using at least one “Ammi” (and amphibious landing modular) barge as a gun platform.
This was a point of some study for those going throug the USN’s Riverine School.
This is a project which will be made after the assembly of the tango, from masterpieces, WIP.
Once finished, I would make a complete comment, I plan to finish at the end of December.
