Hi. I am Rinto from Tokyo. Although I am new to this forum I have been reading FSM magazine for a few years now and recently I saw an old ad for a book by Karl K Juelch called, “Secrets of Expert Molding and Resin Casting,” published by Wingnut International. Where can I get this book ? Any ideas ? Or perhaps someone has an old copy ? Thanks !

If you can read Japanese have a look into the Model Technix Books 1& 2.

Book 2 has a very large and good article on mold-making, mold-design(VERY important), casting, etc.

Not sure about the book you are inquiring though.

Local books, etc are generally 100% sure to refer to local materials, etc that are locally available. While overseas books will recommend materials available to the author and those that he has experiences with.

IME most of those “secret” books refer to products locally available to the author and once that HE gets the best results with, might be wrong on this book.

Hi, I am interested to find out about using a vacuum to keep the air bubbles out of my resin castings. Any ideas on this ? I know how to make molds and how to make resin castings but sometimes a little air bubble spoils the finish. So I want to improve my process. I heard about using a vacuum but I have not met anyone who has done this. Any ideas ?

Hi Daywalker,

I am interested in making my own photoetch parts. I have read some articles regarding this but I want to learn how to do this process with raised detail on the etch parts. I think you have to do the etch process twice to get the raised details but I am not sure. Any ideas on this ? Thanks.

I have seen an article on making your own photo-etch, somewhere in my travels. I think it was at Modeling Madness. If I can find it again, I’ll post the link back here.

It was at Aircraft Resource Center, not Modeling Madness. It’s part 5 of a series, and the preceding 4 articles don’t seem to be up at ARC any more, but you might be able to contact the webmaster and see if the content is still available somewhere.

Hey hi, Brad. That is a great article on making photo etched parts. And there were other links too. Very informative. I want to use etched parts but they are so expensive and so I want to make my own. I want to make my own fences and gates with authentic designs so photo etching is the best way to go.I also want to make motorbike wheel spokes and bicycle wheel spokes and so many other things it just seemed better to learn how to make etched parts. So thanks once again. I am also interested to learn more about usning a vacuum when making resin castings. If you have and info on that it would be greastly appreciated.
