I am working on a Halberstadt D.II and would like to finish it as flown by Manfred von Richthofen. I believe he flew it after having problems with the Albatross D.III wing failure. It would have been in January-February 1917? I do not think the serial number is recorded anywhere, and I can get around that detail, however I am curious as to wether anyone might have some evidence as to how it was painted? I seem to remember somewhere that it was red, but it seems a little early for him to have started painting his aircraft red? Any input is welcome and greatly appreciated.
The information we have is that it was the German two toned Dk, Grn and Venetian Red Brown with minor areas of clear doped linen areas exposed. The underside was probably clear doped linen. There is an image of MvR with such a marked Halberstadt D.II / III in the background. The Brunswick light Green as seen on early Albatros D. fighters may have also been used but evidence is lacking.
