Revisiting my Sherman

My first allied tank built about 2 years ago was a Tamiya Sherman… Took it down from the shelf and using everything I’ve learned from the forum, want to redo some weathering, particularly on the tracks… i know with the Stuart variants, the pads are rubberized and wouldn’t show rust or steel… What about the Sherman? would I want steel showing on the chevrons of the track? The rest of the weathering I can figure out, but I’m just looking for some guidance on the track… Thank you so much.

Geoff

Just had this conversation last night and learned something- some had steel chevrons and some had rubber. The steel ones are much thinner than the rubber one. espins1’s sherman thread has pics of both for you to compare to.

Ah, that I didn’t know… gonna go and find the thread… thanks Jason.

Look on page 2

When you say it like that…

perfect link… seems like mine are rubber… so that would entail a greyish-blue drybrush?

I painted mine black then I took modelmaster panzergrau and mixed a little more black so it was dark and dry brushed it. Finished it off with weathering pastels.

okay, sounds good… thanks for the advice.

Try this, go to left hand side on FSM webpage. In search box type “Sherman Specifics”. This will take you to a link to a Cookie Sewell article. There, FSM gives PDF article link that explains track types. Good luck.

The Squadron/Signal publication “Sherman in Action” has a great explanation of the 4 types of tracks used on the Sherman.
