I mentioned when I bougth the tool that I would give a review after I had used it a few weeks. I first saw it at HD, at fifty bucks, but then saw it at Menards for forty five.
I love this thing- it is now my goto dremel tool. It is small and light, and you can hold it like a pencil. The speed control is okay, but like their other units the speed control is far from constant velocity. It slows down with increasing pressure. Personally this does not bother me. The speed/power is just right for plastic. I will be keeping my big dremel for heavy work on wood or plastic but this is now what I keep plugged in and handy. It is AC powered, not battery. Only thing I don’t like is that the chuck lock is directly 180 from the power switch, and twice I squeezed the chuck lock when I intended to turn it off [:(]
It’s that time of the year. Dremel sells a version of their battery powered Minimite tool for pumpkin carving. Ignore the jack-o-lantern face on the label. It is two speed, but with stale batteries it’s speeds are useful without being too fast to melt plastic. The tool runs on 4 AA batteries. The collet size accepts standard Dremel 1/8 shank burrs.
I picked one up at Lowe’s a few years back, as a post-Halloween sale item, list was about 20 bucks. Check the big box stores and craft stores
Yeah, looks pretty good. Thanks for the review! I find I can hold my Dremel like a pen or a stylus, though, so I wouldn’t get it myself. I don’t say that to discourage anyone else from trying it, though. You can’t go wrong with Dremel.
I picked one up at Wally World for about $30, and I like it too.
However, I also have a pistol grip Dremel tool, with rechargeable batteries, that they made about 10 years ago. It is much easier to hold and control than the Stylus model we are discussing here. I wonder why they were on the market such a short time. This is the one I generally use for most of my grinding or drilling needs.
I’ve had that one for over 2 years now as a Christmas present. Love it and definitely love the variable speed feature. I’m surprised it took you this long to get one.
