I came across this sometime during the summer of 2020. Pre-order was open un the fall and just a few weeks ago i bit the bullet and “pre-ordered” it (it shipped a few days later).
This kit is made of mostly soft styrene with some soft vinyl and hard nylon parts for joints. Also included (bag in upper right) are shafts for the leg linear drive, springs, and wires. The bag at the upper left are pre-assembled joints.
Manual is a wide stiff paper folded into 5 pages double-sided.
Some close up photos of the parts to give you an idea of the level of detail this kit has.
Below are the pre-assembled joints. As you can guess, the block on the upper left is for the “torso”. The joints have a ratcheting system that helps it maintain its pose.
The “mouth”. I should’ve turned on my flash for this shot.
I ought to invest in better photography set up if i plan to upload more photos regularly. Hope you find these photos helpful in deciding whether or not you’d want one of these. They’re quite expensive.
I snapped it together in a few hours making necessary modifications to allow me to disassemble it later for painting. The figure on the right is the NECA one.
I was disappointed in the level of detail. The $100 NECA figure was more detailed than the (more than $100) model kit. See the comparison photos below. Note that I have not installed the wires as those will be left off until I start painting it.
One modification I’ll be making for sure is replacing the shafts in the linear leg drives with threaded rods.
While the detail is a bit lacking the points of articulation more than make up for it.
I’ll take more photos in the near future (with better lighting, hopefully).
Sounds cool and I’m glad there’s a new kit of the ED-209.
But I can’t see any of your photos. I’m getting a broken link in the thread and clicking on the link I’m being asked to log on to your Google account to view the photos.
If the Moderoid toy is better detailed than the kit, that must be one nice toy! I also got the kit recently, and thought it was very nice. Too bad they didn’t make a kit of Robocop - the toy figure is around $100, and I cannot justify that for a purchase.
Anyway, hope you can get your photo hosting sorted so everyone can see your build progress. In my best ED-209 voice “YOU HAVE TEN SECONDS TO COMPLY.” [:P]
