Any of you guys build one of these that actually works?
I haven’t built the Revell V8, but, I have built the MPC 1/4 scale visible 426 Hemi. Motorized with sounds.
I built one of the original kits and it worked fine for years.
Until I hooked up a 7.2 volt ni-cad R/C car pack and bent a few push rods.
Or more accurately broke the lifters off them.
Back in the '70s.
As I recall, careful trimming and cleanup (and lubricating a few key parts with petroleum jelly) had everything working reasonably smoothly as advertised.
Revell meant these kits to be assembled by schoolkids. They’re pretty well-engineered
I built that in the 1960’s. But I think that it was a Renwal kit, not a Revell kit. If I remember correctly, it had a small electric motor in the starter that turned the flywheel which in turn turned the chankshaft. I also think that there were red lights that simulated the sparkplugs firing.
I would caution against using petroleum jelly. I used graphite and kept things dry. But, that’s just me.
Yep, that is my recallection too. I heeded warnings I had seen and carefully cleaned up pistons crank and rods carefully. I did use cooking oil as a lubricant and it did work until oil dried up
