Revell to Release 50th Anniversary Moon Landing Kits

Some news concerning Revell and their spacecraft models. While browsing Scalemates looking for some information on the kit I am building (paint suggestions), I found that Revell is planning on releasing some of their old kits for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.

They include:

1/32nd scale Apollo CM/SM

1/48th scale Apollo CM/SM/LM

1/48th scale Apollo CM/SM/LM Top of S-IVB (the kit I am working on in the Group Build)

1/96th scale Apollo CM/SM/LM

1/96th scale Saturn V

No details on release date or pricing yet. Just have to wait and see.

Any word yet on availability?

Do you know if the 1/48 will have a moon based, like the one I built?

If so, I may get another to build…

Ben

Ben> I don’t think they’re releasing the Monogram version, only the simpler Revell ones.

You can check Scalemates for information. It appears the release dates are still “future”.

50 years, seems just like yesterday, definitly one of those remember where you were events.

I was scrolling down to type basically the same thing.

50 years.

Kind of scary.

Dad and I built a big lunar module out of sheet metal for a science fair. Back then (it was still in the design stage) NASA called it the lunar excursion module. Thing must have stood 4’ high. Man, I wish I had some pictures.

I wonder how many of us remember building those kits. I remember the big 'ol Saturn V.

Apparently Revell has released the 50th anniversary kits. With astronomical prices!

Not the kits I was hoping for, however.

Gary

PS> Luckily I’ve got these kits from 50 years ago when they were cheaper!

I remember the clear display Apollo capsule I had. It was a neat kit.

Yeah, I remember those kits. My parents got me every single one. I also had all the magazines, posters, books, etc. If it was space related I had it or wanted it bad enough to save my allowance for it. I vivid remember that Saturn V. I was dog gone proud when I got the doors on the third stage to work and the legs on the LEM to articulate. Played with it for weeks on end. I was only nine at the time.

Years ago, probably the late 90s, I got an Airfix Saturn rocket, Smithsonian edition, I never got around to building it. I need to dig it out. I think it was like $5 back in the day.

Rob,

Those kits are going for over $100 now (if not hundreds), along with the Dragon Saturn V kit. Not sure when they will release their versions again. The Revell 1/144 scale version is still in production, and they are releasing their 1/96th scale version again.

Gary

Seriously? I need to look into that based on even getting half that. I bought it because it was on clearance in a store that normally does not carry model kits.

Rob,

Selling might be a consideration if you’re not that keen on space subjects. [:)]

With so many out of production, they’re going for premium prices at the moment. If Airfix releases these kits again (as I think they’re going to), the prices may moderate a bit.

Gary

Yeah, it’s not my normal fare. I only bought it because it was real cheap.
