Do these guys ever figure out to put there clear parts in a bag or what? Today I just got a order from Squadron and it had a Revell Monogam 1/48 F-14 A Tomcat I ordered. So I open the box and find that the front of the windscreen is missing. No big deal have asked Squadon to replace it so we will see about that. Now I know this is not a great kit but since I am just starting out on aircraft it is ok. I just had to rant [soapbox]
yeah that missing parts thing is a bummer. You might want to go ahead and get an aftermarket canopy from squadron or greatmodels, it’ll probabaly get to you quicker than Monogram will.
WartHogII,
You may want to do that anyway as Iam currently building the same plane and am having trouble with the canopy fitting correcly. It sits too low on the fuselage as is so I will have to build up the bottom of the main canopy to make it look right. here is a link to a guys website where he has a similar build (Revell f-14 D) in progress: http://hem.bredband.net/thomaskolb/art/models/f14d_e.htm
Good luck with your build, these are not easy to do but will make a good model if you take your time and don’t give up! You may also wish to join the F-14 group build that is going on in the group builds section. You can get a lot of advice and info specific to the F-14 there.
Roejn,
Just a quick question because I have the Revell f-14 on the shelf…
Is it a real nightmare when it comes to fit problems or what?
If you can help so I can avoid being frustrated I’d love to hear from you.
Thanks
Tankbuster

Thanks for the help. I will just go for buying a aftermarket canopy. Its not that big of a deal since I am not going to build it for a time. But since I want some stuff from Squadron or Great Models I will look around for a canopy.
tankbuster2005,
Well, I found so far that the fit around the front of the fuselage halves is kind of bad, I had to do a bit of sanding on the nose cone and the tail cone area is a little bit out of round by the rear stabilizers. You may as well forget about keeping the sweep wing feature unless you have a third set of hands to help hold them while you glue the top of the fuselage on. The link I provided is very accurate as to what kind of fit problems you will encounter, but I still think it’s a good model- you just have to work a little bit harder to get a good result then say a hasegawa cat. I’m still building mine, getting ready to fill all the seams and preshade so I may change my mind and move on to something else if I hit a big snag. If you go over to the F-14 group section around page 38 you can see some of my in progress pics. You may also get some good advice from some of the other guys over there as well. Good luck![:)]
I’ve built the Revell F-14A and found that the best way to keep the sweep wing feature is to sweep the wings back to full back since this will keep the weight of the wings from constantly popping them off before you join the fuselage halves.
UpDate
I did not even bother with trying to get the part from Revell Monogram since having to pay 3 dollers to have a piece the size of a penny sent to me was ****. So I told Squadron about it and they are replacing it today and shiping the part to me the next day. Very great service from Squadron! I recommend them very much for there great service. So I am very happy now[:D]
Yeah that’s what I did with mine. swept back the wings and called it good. Started to do some fill work last night- will have to do at least 3 coats of filler and copius amounts of sanding to get it looking right! Yeesh!!
of course the F-14 from Academy is loads better though
Well, I haven’t built one yet but I will probably buy one as I’m not sure how well this one’s going to turn out. Great practice though!
