I just bought the Revell Heinkel HE 111p-1. The trouble is figuring out the correct colours to use. The instructions give colours with RLM numbers. Is this a manufacturers number?
What I need is yellow RLM 04, light blue RLM 65, Dark green RLM 71, red RLM 23 sand RLM79 and dark blue RLM 24.
If anyone has built this already could you tell me the brand of paints you used and the stock numbers .
RLM colours are the specific colours used by the German airforce. RLM stands for Reichs Luftfahrt Ministerium. It can be awkward when a colour chart only gives these numbers if you are not familiar with them.
I have found this very useful. Download the chat and save it to your computer.
To piggy-back onto what has already been said- RLM colors are widely available in both Acrylics and Enamels, which makes life easier if you prefer one over the other.
Thanks to everyone for the info and the links. I am generally a boat modfeler but way back when I was getting into modelling. My brother and I built just about every Airfix WWII model we could get our hands on. The HE 111 was always my favourite. So when I saw the 1/32 scale kit of the HE 111 I just had to buy it. My second favourite bomber has to be the Lancaster followed by the JU 88. First I have to finish the HE 111 and it looks pretty good. I want to get all the correct paint coplours first. I have found that Polyscale has all the RLM colours and the paint conversion chart one of you sent me a link for helps as well.
My pleasure, look forward to seeing it. I had planned on buying this kit, but then i heard Revell are bringing out an H-6 so i put it on hold. I have the Ju 88 and it looks pretty nice.
