Hello everyone! I just bought Revell Germany’s 1:72 Red Barron kit and it was actually quite fun. I still got a little to go, but I’d say it’s about 95% done. I’m just working on the wire rigging, as seen in these photos. But all coments are welcomed and thanks for looking!

Sorry about the bad lighting.[:I]

Here’s a front view of it. I tried to do some wood-like detailing with the prop, but I don’t think you can see it here…

You can see the loose sewing thread that I’m CAing and letting dry here. The red paint is actual red paint, not that kit-molded red plastic (I hate how they do that!).

Here’s a side view. You might be able to tell that the rudder is a little to the right. I wanted it to be as real as possible.
Thanks for looking and all coments are welcomed! It was either this or the 1:28 scale (what a weird scale![8)]) of the same plane (also made by revell germany). I didn’t want to make this small project drown out (because of all these GB’s going on) so I went for the small one. But eveythings welcomed, thanks!
looking great ArmorMaster. Looking great indeed.
Love the red color. Looking forward to more pics
ryan you are proving to be a master of all plastic not just armor. great progress. thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone! I started out modeling as a flyboy, but went to the darkside, but now I do a little of both…
Nice build of a nice little kit. Thanks for sharing.
Great looking model, ArmorMaster! Somehow the new Revell Fokker Triplane never made it to my LHS[sigh]. Have you considered using invisible thread for the rigging? Might look a little more in scale. Just an idea.
Chris.
I originally planed to use 2 pound test, like I do with the antenae cables on ww2 A/C, but I relized the thing is only about 3 inches long, so working with fishing line would be tricky. The kit recomends black thread, so I used the closest thing I had to it: dark blue thread and I painted it black. But thanks for the compliments everyone!
ArmorMaster,
I think you can see the wood effect of the propeller and it looks great. Is this a revell kit that fits pretty well? Someday I would like to do a Barron plane…
Nice job.
Leon
Hello ArmorMaster,
Thanks for sharing the pic’s. I like the little dreidecker, tiny huh?[;)] I finished the 1/28th scale Revell Germany kit last week myself. I built it OOB, with a little stretched sprue for rigging wires. I built it to give to my little two year old newphew, his mom will hang it in his room. She says he is into the Red Baron’s plane and stuff, so I thought why not?I figured the big scale would look impressive hanging in his room. What do you think? enjoy

Looking good, ArmorMaster. WW i aircraft can be very tricky in that scale, but you seem to handle it well. Looking forward to the finished kite !
My godness i would be so scared to build such a bird! you got nerve fella and is looking GREAT! [tup][tup] congrats and thanks for sharing! looking forward to see it done
[:D]
Regards
Hector.
looking good AM!! i’m a sucker for planes with more than one wing. later.
nicodemus, that is one awsome model!!! Makes me wish that I could have bought the 1:28 scale, but then again 1:72 looks nifty![:D] Awsome Dr. L, just awsome nicodemus!!! I think I’ve been topped!
The fit wasn’t the best, but I’d say for the most part it went together well. It was about half and half: half good fit, the other half not so good fit. Since it was a small scale model, it didn’t help any either. But thanks everyone!
Another thing I noticed while reading my aviation history mag (sorry darkside, I’m a true bennidict arnold!!!) is that the red barron’s rudder was white with a lufftwaffe looking cross, not the iron cross. also, the wings have different crosses then what I was given with my red barron. Does anybody know the skinny on this? But thanks for the compliments everyone!!!
ArmorMaster,
Thanks for the kind words, back at ya’ my friend, very neat triplewinger![tup] Nice touch on the rudder position. Mine actually broke off during the build![:0] I painted it white very carefully, but managed to snap it right off. Funny thing, the decal was sized to completely cover the rudder anyway! You raise a good question about the cross styles, That big kit had 2 decal options for two different kites with two distinct styles. Thanks again!
I like your pics, looks very subtle. I would like to try this kit someday. WW1 fighters look so “rustic”. Nice job.

A very nice job on such a small scale, I did the 1/28 scale and found the wing alignment tough, I sudder to think what my clummsy fingers would do to those small struts.
