Revell F-18E finished pics

everyone should run to Wal Mart and buy two of this kit,i swear it’s got to be a borrowed mold from Tamiya or Hasegawa, just a great all around kit detail and fit wise

comments/critics welcome

She’s a BEAUTY!!! I love the panel lines. I know the revell “E” bug has the recessed lines. I scribed my F-18’s panel lines and hope it comes out looking like yours when finished.

Well done!

Wow, that’s a beautiful Hornet, lone. Looks fantastic.

I’ve never wanted to try the panel shading thing, mostly because I’m too scared, but

I think your jet has changed my mind. It looks excellent. Great job.

WOW lone you did a beautiful job on the Hornet. Kinda makes me want to build a gas passer again.

Very nice job on a kit that has it’s share of bugaboos. I disagree with the Tamiya/Hasegawa mold comment. The kit has it’s fit issues, particularly the 9-piece section forward of the leading edges. I noticed you seem to have experienced the same issues as everyone else I know who’s built this kit in that area. I agree with everyone going to WalMart, or wherever, and picking a few up…the issues I mention are minor in comparison to the overall build, and the kit finished looks fantastic! And, it about $15.00 to boot, and you don’t need a seperate $20.00 Weapons Set A, B, C, or D! You’ve done a really nice job, and I especially appreciate the subtle, sea-and-salt-weathered LowVis scheme you’ve finished yours in. Bravo Zulu!

Great job, Nice paint work. Thanks for posting

Nice one Lone. Well done.

“Lone,”

Great job on the “Rhino!” You guys have to stop calling the F/A-18E/F a Hornet, remember behind the boat it’s called the “Rhino.”

Anyway, great job on the weathering. Once the Navy Corrosion Control guys start getting to work on them they’ll start looking as good as yours. Regarding the kit itself, did you use any after market resin or photo etch stuff? Does Monogram/Revell make an F mod?

this bird is straight from the box,had plenty of detail to work with and the earlier mentioned fit issues were pretty minor, just took a little bit of fixing and turns out great

as far as the F model,i haven’t seen one,but i’m thinking that all the money they must have spent on this fine set of molds that they haven’t

Great job on the Hornet! The finish and weathering look great and really turned yours into an exceptional build.

[#ditto]theres nothing i could add about how well the Rhino lookst but to answer the question asked…Revell will be coming out with an F model sometime near the end of the month or in early december[8-]…i cant wait for it though…im not exactly able to buy the Hasegawa version but i know that the new release will be as good if not better than the Hasegawas.

Nice looking model. Very good job on the weathering.

Not to nit-pick, but I don’t think the forward nose gear doors are mounted properly - the upper part actually forms the inside wall of the gear well, with the gear door below it. It’s similar to the arrangement Monogram/Revell used on their F-14’s.

Otherwise a great effort.

Red,

I am building the Revell 1/48 F-18C and nose gear doors mount just like you said however the E kit is entirely different. The underside profile is actually smaller and more sleek that the C version so nose gear doors they are not going to look round, they are almost flat. The molding for the E is not your typical Revell run-of-the-mill molding. The molding for the E kit was totally retooled for more detail and recessed panel lines and the nose section is a 6 piece assembly, it was totally redone to allow all detail inside the wheel well. The specs are consistant with demensions of real F-18E’s. There is a good review of the kit over on ARC’s web site.

yup, your right about the nosewheel doors,it was brought to my attention through a PM that the upper section was supposed to be INSIDE of the wheel bay,the mistake has since been corrected and all is hunky dory now, good eye
