Hi guys, I have questions about these kits colors. The first is the 1/48 Revell F-15C. The only problem is its camoflauge. One color that says Gray is FS 25273 and the light gray is FS 26373. I have looked everywhere for those colors but couldn’t find them. I am pretty sure Model Master doesn’t make them. Anyone know if there are any other colors that can be used?
Next is the old Revell 1/48 Mig 21. I am pretty sure you all know what it looks like. My questions are, what is the wheel well colors for the Mig. And what are the cockpit colors. Last, what is the underside color?
Depending on the color scheme, you may be looking for:
Dark Ghost Gray FS 36320
Light Ghost Gray FS 36375
For what’s generally known as the “Compass Gray” scheme.
Note that the first digit in the FS number denotes the sheen of the color, ie. “1” = gloss, “2” = semi-gloss, “3” = flat. This means that “16320” and “36320” are the same shade, the only difference being that one is gloss and the other flat.
Seeing how I just finished a Fishbed I may be of some help to you (assuming that Academy’s ref’s are correct!)…however, I need to know what nationalities’ colors you’re referring to. I’m assuming you want the Russian FS#'s?
The Mig-21 wore many schemes during its service life. Wheel well colors varied accordingly as well. On earlier NMF aircraft they could be NMF as well or painted in gray, green, or yellow Zinc chromate according to photos I have seen. On later camoflaged aircraft, the wheel well colors were often the same color as the lower surface of the aircraft. The cockpit color on the Mig-21 P/PF was usually the blue green color. The underside color depends upon the user and time period. I have a decent reference library on Mig-21s so I will help as much as I can if you can be more specific on what scheme you are planning to finish the Mig with.
Ok, did a little book and online research for your Mig. This was a late 60s Air Demonstration team Mig-21. Red over natural metal. Bort Numbers were in Blue outlined in White. For that time period (1967) wheel wells should be natural metal, and cockpit bluegreen ( Testors and Xtra Color both make the proper shade) including instrument panel, with black instruments and switch panels. Ejection seat (SK-1) light gray with brown leather headrest and red ejection handles. Dark Green nosecone and dilectric panel on ventral fin.
