Fellow Modelors,
Do you know if anyone makes a good resin cockpit for the Revell Super Tom? I’ve looked all over (Aires, Black Box, etc.) and can’t seem to find one.
Thx, John
Oops…forgot to mention which scale…it would be 1/48.
Thx

have you tried wal-mart?mine sells them all the time!or try a web site called www.hobbylinc.com they sell discout name brand models half the retail price!
the cockpit Stukah, you mean wal-mart sells aftter-market sets now?? [:O][:O][:O][:O][wow][wow][wow][wow]
Yeah, Stukah, I know you’re new to the site (I’m pretty green myself, but making up for it with my wordiness and tendency to butt in on topics where I am clearly out of my league) and you don’t know yet that we don’t have a mean spirited person among the lot of us (so far). So when you get some gentle kidding, it’s just that – gentle kidding. Now, were you putting all of us on? I remember some years ago the local Wal-mart would sell things like Hasegawa’s series of 1/8 scake WW I engines, and fairly esoteric stuff like that. But then they changed to selling nothing but Testors paint in those individual bubble packs, and snap-tite kits. That was it. The party was over. On those Hasegawa engines – which came from their $600.00 Museum Series of WW I a/c skeletons – went on sale for one dollar each. I bought all four of them. Gave two of them away, traded one for a decal sheet and sold one to another guy for $10. I hadn’t the slightest interest in them. There were plastic, with vinyle tubing and fat, brass push rods about 7 inches long.
Which scale? I know there’s an Eduard PE set for the 1/72 scale Revell F-14D. I was thinking of picking it up, but it costs more than the model (typical of PE, I suppose).
As far as resin, I’ve not seen any for the Revell kits in either scale. On the other hand, the 1/72 scale cockpit looks pretty darned good to me.
Regards,
Closest set I can think of is the F-14A resin cockpit set made by True Details. I don’t think there is a set for the D yet made by this company. You can find this set on www.squadron.com . You brought up an interseting question though. I have several of the Monogram kits, & a few cockpit sets from Black Box, & Aires which were designed for the Hasegawa F-14 kit. I’ve never thought to see how those fit into the the Monogram kit. I’ll have to try that sometime soon.

whats wrong with the cockpit i just finished my cockpit out of the box and it looks great.
I can see your point, Gunny, as I’ve built arount 10 of these kits right out of the box, but the level of detail you get with an aftermarket cockpit set is way beyond what the stock kit offers. Its second nature for a lot of modelers to want to cram as much detail into a project as possible, while others are not so inclined. I fall somewhere in-between, more towrds the detail cramming side though.
My F-14 stash is divided up between the kits I just want to display certain squadron markings for (using the Monogram kit), while there are some units I want to put in a busy -looking diorama setting, using the beutiful, but difficult to build Hasegawa kit. Most of the Hasegawa F-14 kits that I have will have the Black Box set installed, but not all, as I have a few of the Monogram kits, of which only three will have the True Details cockpit set.

You could try this one:

I have the Revell F14A 1/48 kit and got this detailing set. Although it’s for the Hasegawa kit, it will fit, with a little cutting and sanding!
Also, you have the F14D kit, and I do not know of there is a huuuge difference in cockpit layout…
There are very noticable differences between the A & D cockpit. Both the pilots & RIOs inst. panels on the D have CRT screens that are not present on the A. Also, the ejection seats are different as well. There are a few smaller items that I can’t remember, since I’m at work now. Here are some links to some pics of the inst. panel to help.

Didn’t know if you guys noticed but the RIO cockpits are labled both as F-14D.The first pic of the RIO’s office I believe is the “A” model cockpit and the bottom pic is the “D” version. [%-)][%-)] I just don’t want any new guys to get confused. Very nice pics none the less. Will help me a great deal when I begin my 1/32 “D” Turkey.[:)][:)]
The original poster hasn’t stated which scale he’s working in.
Is everyone assuming he’s talking about 1/48 scale?
Regards,
The original poster went back & edited his post & put in 48th scale. I’m working on posting some images of the True Details resin set for the Revellogram kit.
Chris Ish
Oh. Now I see it. [:)]
Regards,
I think revell release the f-14d in 1/48 only. Correct me if I’m wrong please.
I know of no replacement kits meant for this kit exclusively, but since it’s one I eventually have to go back and rebuild, I’d be interested in an AM kit for this as well.
Revell has also released an F-14D in 1/72. There’s even a workbench review on it here:
It was originally a Revell of Germany product, but has been released under the regular Revell label too.
