Revell F-14A Tomcat with VF-103 Jolly Roger decals

What are your opinions of this kit? Will it build it a nice aircraft or would I be better suited to go and buy another F-14 and just use the decals from the Revell kit?

Just to let you know, VF-103 The Jolly Rogers never flew the F-14A as VF-103. When they flew the F-14A they were VF-84 The Jolly Rogers. VF-84 was decomm’ed and VF-103 The Sluggers(flying F-14B’s) picked up their name, so when The Jolly Rogers became VF-103, they were flying F-14B’s.[;)]

Revell’s F-14A builds up into a nice model, but there’s something amiss around the engine area…

The Revellogram 14A has the parts to build it into a D…so still…you aren’t going to have the right parts to make it into a 103 bird.

regarding aagranata’s post about the engine area…the fuselage around the engine is incorrect. It is perfect for an A model, but you will need to build up the sides with putty for a D

nice kit for the money but is a far cry from any of the hasegawa line, but of course they are considerably more expensive[:)]

I can attest to the quality of the hasegawa kit, I have by no means finished it but am quite impressed with the quality and detail. I dont think you mentioned weather you were building 1/48 or 1/72 but if its the latter you can get that kit for under $25 and with the quality of plastic parts and add to that a PE fret, its really a steal

You get what you pay for. The Hasagawa kit is not that expensive. What I call expensive is what I just paid for the Admiral Moskva in 1"350 scale. 80 bones for the kit.

peeweebiggs im not saying that the hasegawa kits are expensive .what i did say is that they are more expensive than the revell line. also i dont feel that 80.00 is alot of money on a model neither. unless you have a smaller budget and which i dont[:(!]

I have a tiny budget(like if I buy a model kit I eat ramen for dinner for a week) and I didnt feel my 1/72 hasegawa F-14 was expensive. $80 thats a little steep, thats rice and water for a week, no thanks
