Hi, I just bought the Revell B-17G “EL LOBO” 1/48 model kit, but since this is an older model kit of Revell with an older manual there is no paint list with the exact paint numbers (Such a list is included with the newer Revell model kits, they say exactly which Revell paint colors you need to buy to build the model).
now my question is which exact paint colors and brands you guys used? A list of Paint colors/numbers would be very nice!!! I also have a airbrush.
I’ll make photo’s of my work every step I make and when I’m finished I’ll upload them all for everyone to see them.
I’m from the Netherlands so if there is anything wrong with my grammar, I appologise for that.
For the olive drab-over-grey camo scheme on a subject like this old Monogram kit, I use Tamiya’s rattlecan AS-6 USAAF Olive Drab, or their XF-62 Olive Drab, applied with the airbrush. For me, these are a starting point, a base color, over which I will apply weathering, including fading. So I’m not as worried as some might be, that the paint is an exact match right out of the can or jar.
For the underside, I use Tamiya’s rattlecan AS-7 Neutral Gray, or XF-20 Medium Gray, again, applied with the airbrush.
thanks for your help, I will paint the fuselage polished aluminium paint. I already found 2 paints for the job. These cost around 5/6 Euro each but it will be worth the end result!
I used Tamiya AS12 bare metal silver for the outside of mine. You can see it in my thread. I did go over it with flat clear at the end to tone it down, I didn’t want that much shine, but it would be perfect for the finish you want.
And just to go back to the beginning, there is no good reason to ever follow the paint guide in a kit. In the case of Revell, their paints beyond black, white and silver don’t match much in reality. Trumpeters are always flawed.
If I was ever to trust the paint callout in any kit, it would be a RAF subject via Humbrol.
But even then, no real reason not to do the research online.
Another couple of options would be Alclad, or bare metal foil.
