Revell B-17 Flying Fortress Color help

I’m making the Revell B-17 1/48 model and is said to use Green Zinc Chromate on some parts and some parts it just said Zinc Chrommate… Is that two diffrent colors?

Yes, there are two different colours, ordinary yellow zinc chromate and green zinc chromate. Thrre was also a salmon-coloured version.

In fact, since basic zinc chromate primer is essentially translucent, unless pigment is added, the colour will be largely determined by the surface onto which it is sprayed.

In modelling paint ranges, yellow zinc chromate is widely available. Green zinc chromate is available in, among others, the White Ensign Colourcoats range. All you need to know about zinc chromate (and then some) here:

As to your Revell B-17, I would check that the areas they suggest should be Green Zinc Chromate should not, in fact, be Interior Green. It’s the sort of mistake that occurs quite often on mass-market kit manufacturers’ instruction sheets.

Cheers,

Chris.

To add to what Chris said, differeent parts of the B-17 interior were painted different colors depending upon who made teh plane and the year of manufacture. Earlier B-17s often had the cockpit in Bronze Green while other areas could be interior green or differeant shades.

Add to that that many of the unpainted Forts didn’t have any paint in some of the interior compartments either… I know of several that had no paint in the waist and tail positions except for floor panels and armor plates…

I’d go with interior green and dull dark green. But not green chromate, it’s way to bright. [2c]

Wow thanks for the info lol i had already painted most of it cuz i was working with what i already had in a spray can. It’s called goblin green from the warmammer 40k gaming. but i noticed it when looking at the instructions. but also i have 2 of thies models[8D]
