Hi guys, I normally build cars as my main hobby. Every now and again I like to go off the deep end and tackle something a little out of my league.
Right now it will be the Revell kit fo the A-10 in 1/48 scale. I’ve bought some decals to replicate the shark mouth version, gotten the mini book and will be doing research this summer.
My question to you guys that have built this kit is, what will I have to look out for or what will need fixing? I’d like the kit to look the part.
I’m also curious as to what the best kit of this plane is. I only picked up the Revell kit due to price and it was easily attained.
I’ve gone through and read some other things on the site but they really never answered my questions.
Thanks for your time. I look forward to your responses.
Chris
I have not build that kit. Hopefully some of the forum regulars will jump in, but until then, try

Just scroll down and find the correct plane/mfg and click on the link. These reviews are usually pretty good.
love the plane, never built the kit. i have the tamiya kit that’s been in my stash for 15 or so years now. i will get around to it one day. [(-D] as for helping you sorry i cant be any…but someone will im sure!
I built that kit many years ago … gee, right about the time the bombs started falling in Iraq in the first Gulf War… I don’t remember anything unusual about the kit. It is typical Monogram quality, raised panel lines, decent but not great detail, probably some seams to deal with but nothing substantial. I had that build sitting around for years, painted by hand as I did that one in the years before I acquired an airbrush, but alas, it did not survive all the various moves and is now in the parts box of old shattered kits.
I built the Revelogram kit a few years ago and thought it was pretty good. Most “Hog” people will argue that it is the best 1/48 kit out there. I have heard alot of good remarks about the Hobby Boss kit except the price is steep at $60.00 to $70.00.

I recently built this kit and loved it. The only beef I had, and it was a rather big one, was that the sway braces did not fit cleanly into the pylons, and there are LOTS of sway braces!! You will need filler in some places, but it will sand down real nice. I found the cockpit to be very detailed and nicely done. And LOTS of nose weight!
I actually discovered a new painting technique with this kit. I sprayed the entire airframe with a Model Master medium green rattle can, and then brush painted the dark green and dark gray with Model Master Acryl. After decaling and dullcoating, I was amazed at the result. No brush strokes visible at all.
I’ve got the kit. As previously stated, it has raised panel lines, but overall its not bad. The HB kit is about the nicest I’ve seen so far. Although, I am still partial to the old AMT kit.
I must have built this kit 10 times in my younger days, but for the life of me can’t remember a thing about it. I do recall having an issue with the engine nacelles, but that may be the Tamiya…I just don’t remember. I have both the Hobby Boss and Italeri offerings in my stash, mainly since I would rather suck-start a pistol than rescribe panel lines on the Monogram. It looks like the Hobby Boss is a scaled down version of the Trumpeter kit and the Italeri version looks good in the box but I picked up the Aires cockpit and wheel wells to enhance it. Hmmm. I should probably get started on one of those two…
Hey guys, thank you very much for the insight to this kit.
With what’s been said I will keep this kit and build it. You guys use some terms I’m not familiar with(remember, car guy here) but once I get to looking at the kit, book and research it should all come to me.
I like the plane and my three boys do too, so I thought it would be fun to build and hang from our hobby room ceiling.
I look forward to getting to it and leaning on you guys for any support I may need through the build.
Again, thank you.

Darn nice kit, especially considering the price. Goes together easily. I would echo the tail heaviness.
Hi, Chris, good choice for an aircraft kit, because I love Monogram kits, and the A-10 is a cool aircraft.
I recommend following the link in Bob’s post, which leads to a couple of reviews/online build reports at Modeling Madness, and they’re good reading, just to see what can be done with the kit.
And you’ll find a lot of good ideas and advice here in the forum, too, once you get started.
Regards,
Brad
