No football this weekend and just the Superbowl left, so I am going to try and build this:
Hopefully it will come out alright. I’d be happy with alright.
So, for this week, I was able to get some sub-assemblies done. Engine, suspension, front seats, radiator mount with fan shroud and fan/alternator belts. If the garage warms up enough I will try and prime everything. If not next week is supposed to be warmer.
I’m not into sport cars and know little about mechanics, but I must admit that cars of yesteryear had by far more grit than those clunkers we are seeing nowadays. But should I ever choose to build a car, I would build a Pontiac Firebird and indeed an Aston Martin DB5, but even a Lotus Esprit would fit into my choices. Waiting for your further progress. I am really curious to see this Gem come to life.
Great start. Should be a beauty when you’re done bookmarking… ![]()
Good looking kit! Should be a fun one.
Thanks everyone for dropping by. Not much to start with.
This week was engine work and I wanted to try my hand at wiring the engine. Now, I am no mechanic just a basic understanding of how engines work, so forgive me if wires are not going to the correct places. They should be close though.
First is the basic engine painting.
Using 23 gauge florist wire for the spark plug wires.
Wired the spark plugs to the engine.
Then to the distributor cap.
Then the finished engine, just glad I was able to get the wires flat enough for the air intake to fit properly.
Worked on the chassis. The rear axle sub assembly and exhaust are not attached yet. Went with what I remember to be Munroe shock colors, yellow with blue logo. I don’t think you can quite see it in the picture though.
Also, started on the interior,
And working on the body color, my version of Saturn Yellow.
If I get more done I will update tomorrow.
Fine painting work on that engine. I too am not a mechanic so what do I know about it… but seeing your effort is revealing and educational indeed. Thank you for sharing.
You are very welcome. I am glad you were able to take something away from what I have done so far. I hope it helps. Thank you for looking in, will have more soon.
Thanks NucMedTech, I count on it. I will peek in from time to time to see your progress. I wish you well and hope your work will produce the model of your dreams.
Nice painting job so far. I particularly like that flat black addition on the hood. It gives it that “true grit” look such a car deserves. This car will certainly make heads turn…
The hood still has work needed. It is supposed to have a stinger down the center the main body color with a red pin stripe outlining it. If i would have done the car white there is a supplied decal to make it easier. So i will need to mask, prime with white and then paint the body color. I do not think that i will be able to do the red pin stripe at that scale though. Final coats will be gloss though.
It just requires patience and perseverance. I am sure it will be splendid.
Okay, so I masked and painted the stinger on the hood and think it came out pretty good.
Then I found out that there was a yellow decal for the stinger so I used that and think it looks better, even color matches well .
Here is the rear axle assembly.
I have the interior pretty much done. The speedometer is off a little, I found out after I took the picture and was able to zoom in. Not that anyone will ever see it, but I now know it is there and it irks me.
So the chassis is done and I started the detail painting for the engine bay.
And that is it for this week’s update.
