Revell 1/72 new tool PT-109 in depth review

Greetings,

Today I posted on the PT Boat forum an in depth review of the new tool Revell Germany 1/72 PT-109 kit. You can find it at the following link…

Thanks for the review. PT boats are not high on my ship interest, so I’m not sure if I will build one, but it looks like a nice kit. Love the color instruction booklet!

The kit doesn’t excite me. The details look to be soft, undersized, and/or missing. Flash and mold seams. The company, even undergoing bankruptcy, could have done better. Its not a scale thing, the industry does better on 1:72 scale aircraft. These guys took the quick route and it shows.

Its going to take a 50 to 100 dollar aftermarket set to bring this thing into the 21st century. The better investment may be to grab up the 60’s vintage kit for less than 20 (even better with a coupon from a big box craft store)

The first step I’d suggest is to modify the end opening box to have a lid instead.

I agree. These boxes are not friendly to the kit or the modeler.

I agree with Ed. Dave did a great job reviewing the kit and providing photos of the instructions and the parts, but I would use some of the parts of this kit and cannibalize others to update the venerable PT 109 (or its PT 117, PT 167, and PT 190 release versions) kit, which first came out in 1963.
