Revell 1/72 F4C Phantom II ‘Sturmvogel Kronos’
Operation ‘Kronos’
During the late 1930s as war clouds gathered over Europe Hitler decided to fund numerous offbeat and unusual projects to project and increase nazi power on the cheap. Normally these projects came to nothing or were prevented from fruition such as the attempt to secure Jewish religious objects from Egypt that was prevented by an obscure American Professor named jones. Said Jones seems to have also interferred with another project that involved medieval relics but these projects were considered failures and not publicized.
Fearing Hitler’s wraith the SS gave up on these projects,but not before the ever jealous Herman Goerig got wind of them. Using his power as Gauliter of Prussia he funded an operation that was considered essentially impossible but would be attempted anyway, ‘Operation Kronos’
‘Kronos’ was the name of a secret fragment of a meteor that had struch Tunguska Russia in 1908 that Imperial germany had managed to secure without the czar’s knowledge using top secret Zeppelins that nobody knew existed. The fragment had caused the Earth to increase its rotaion by 8 seconds and the peice was a one of a kind object. Considered a curiosity at first, the best minds of Germany such as Eienstein believed that if enough energy could be challened into the fragment it would be possible to make one trip into the future by one man, who could only send back one slip of data.
For many years the fragment lay in a castle basement in Colditz castle, all but forgotten in the post WWI world. But one man knew of it, Hugo Junkers, the owner of the famous Junkers aircraft manufacturer. During the mid 30s Goering’s air ministry attempt to force Junkers to sell his company and to save it, junkers revealed to Goerig the secret in exchange for saving his company. The shame of it drove Junkers to depression and an early death, but it would change the fortunes of the third reich. The reich marshal used this information to enact the event that would change history, ‘Operation Kronos’.
The plan was simple and direct, Werner Heisenberg was named as director of Sonderkommando ‘Kronos’ and ordered to make the time travel attempt using the fragment. The Reich was searched for the perfect candidate to survive the one way trip and it was decided to send an SS man of great daring, one Otto Skorzeny.
Skorzeny was carefully briefed and trained for a year to find a worthwhile technology to send into the past. Since the Luftwaffe was funding the attempt Skorzeny was told to find something aeronautical to send back. All that was left was the generation of the 21.1 gigawatts to send Skorzeny into the future. On every stormy night Skorzeny was strapped into the special time displacement device deep in the bowels of Colditz castle to await the possible strike of lightning on the many collectors located on the castle’s towers. Finally the day came and Skorzeny was catapulted into the furture never to be seen again. Even as he vaniashed a large piece of microfilm appeared in the chamber, it was Skorzeny’s one way transmission.
The data stated that Skorzeny had been propelled into 1962, that Germany had lost the world war mainly through bombing and loss of air superiorty and to remedy this, Skorzeny sent back the plans for the most advanced air weapon he could obtain, the McDonnell Douglas F4C Phantom II. The plans were incomplete and the design for its underwing missles was also spotty, the Junkers firm knew it could not build the plane as designed as it lacked the skills to do so. However, using 1940s equivilents it might be possible. The first step was to replace the smoothe metal who’s strength could not be copied with special enlarged rivets who’s strength would hold the plane together.
It took Junkers almost 5 years to work up an operational version which was ready in January of 1943. Out of favor with Hitler, Goerig believed he could restore his place with the new plane, which he called ‘Sturmvogel Kronos’. Hitler was never informed of the Kronos operation so when he saw the test flight of the plane he was astounded as it acchived nearly 1200 MPH in level flight and its rivet re-enforced wings could carry over 10,000 pounds of bombs. Delighted, hitler ordered all other aircraft to cease production and poured all resources into the Sturmvogel Kronos.
By July of 1943 the plane had equiped all the air units of the Luftwaffe on the eastern front and made its debut during the great attack on kursk, ‘Operation Zittidel.’ The Soviet defenses were devisatated by the Sturmvogel’s bombs and missles which blew enormous holes in the defense. the Red Airforce could not cope with an attack plane flying more then 4 times as fast as their best plane and the Red Army began a massive rout far worse then the 1941 debacles. Units soon became available in the west, first destroying large portions of the fleet trying to invade Italy and smashing both the daylight and night bomber offensives.
By November of 1943 the Germans rolled into Moscow and the beaten Soviet union surrendered, ending the war in the east. The Allies would try to drag the war on but an air assualt invasion of Britain by paratroops escorted by the lethal Sturmvogels in early 1945 forced peace talks that ended the war in a Nazi victory, and all of this was made possible by one alien fragment for a metoer that had landed decades ago…
