This is vehicle 1 of a 2 vehicle diorama I’m making, including a 1:76 Land Rover FFR vehicle… Its a very nice little kit, but not the best decals (or I stuffed them up). Two tarps and a camo net were added using tissue paper and white glue. The camonet is a tissue liberally coated with glue and the contents of 1 PG tips teabag. Painted using revell #45 light olive as a base, then Tamiya NATO black camo stripes. The tarps and camonet were painted olive drab. Next was a black and burnt umber oil wash, drybrushed with titanium white oil, dusted the skirts and rear with tamiya buff and wet-looked with tamiya smoke. The mud is tamiya dark earth with flour. The tracks were painted flat black, then drybrushed with gunmetal and silver, but then I re-drybrushed heavily with humbrol metalcote and buffed that to a sheen. Next up was a dusting with pastels.
Wow, extremely well done. The painting and finishing is just superb. I very much like the dusted skirts that fade as you move up the tank. Great job, and thanks for the pics!! [:)]
Oh my god…that a beautifull job…congratulations…
My next project is a Revell´s 1:72 Challenger I too, your will be serve by me as a model :)
I used to make a 1:35 models untill now…I don´t know if I can made a 1:72 with the same quality, when I finish it I post some pics here…
The lateral basket… you made with the kit piece or made another with a small net?
Tank you to sharing…
The more I see of 72 scale the more I am impressed with it.The detail are definitly coming up on this scale and look just as good as the 35 scale.Michealvk great jod on this tank and its scale.Digger
Awesome work! Every time I think I’m improving, something like this comes along! Outstanding work Mike! This gives me a new level of quality to shoot for. Thanks for sharing these pics!
Exceptionally nice! I, like just about everyone else, thought at first look, you had built 1/35 scale. You have really accomplished an amazing job the camo, and weathering on such a small scale is excellent. Thanks for sharing with us. Semper Fi, mike
That looks pretty damn good, hope my half built 1/72nd Dragon Challenger II comes out that well.
I have one question though, does anyone have any definative info on which greens Challengers have been painted in, it seems that both an olive green and a darker bronze green have been used but I can’t find which has been used when.
For example in the pic in the link I would have said it was a weathered bronze green, any thoughts?
Thanks for all the kind words, folks. I can really recommend the kit.
Fabio: The turretbin is the kit piece, and for 100% accuracy might be better done with a piece of mesh and a styrene frame, however for me its accurate enough.
I-beam, these are link-n-length tracks, which look far, far better than any rubber bands I’ve ever seen. Revell’s tracks have really raised the bar. One thing though, next time I’ll start on the ground side and work up so its easier to hide any links that aren’t long enough or overlap. Neither was really a problem here though.
Saddler, Revell recommends their #45 light olive enamel. It seems to come pretty close, but could do with a tiny drop of their grey-green to darken it a smidge. By the way, I’ve never seen two pictures of any British camo job the same colour. Anyway, after a fairly dark black oil wash and other weathering, it comes pretty close to the picture you linked to (I think)…
Crockett, the basic trick is when you start to wonder if you need to do more, stop immediatly!
Michael I really admire who make kits in braile scale…
I making a Sherman M4 of Brazilian Army in 1:72 and …my God …is much more difficult of 1:35 scale…when I finish it I post some pics here…
Great finishing job, Michael. I’ve got the Revell Leo 1A5 in 1/72, and I’m really looking forward to getting in to it. Revell are making great little kits.
