This is my first post in Ships because this was the first time I built a ship, 1:700 U.S.S. Arleigh Burke:
Usually I work on 1:25 scale hotrod stuff, and often on 1:72 scale planes/armor/figures. So this was something different for me, a new challenge. It was a lot of fun!
I got the kit at a yard sale, $3. So that was total cost of the build (not counting the Humbrol paints I already had). No PE sets or anything, would be nice though, especially a little railing.
It might have got thrown in the stash to stay there indefinitely, but it did not, I started on it that very night.
Anyways, that’s it, not a great masterpiece or anything but I just had a great time building it. Hope you like the pics!
If it’s not too late (or when it gets knocked loose in the future) on Flight I DDGs, the helo lands with the long axis in line with the angled white line on the deck.
On Flight II DDGs that have a helo hangar, an SH-60B/MH-60R (tailwheel is pretty far forward on both) will land going straight forward (in line with the ship), an MH-60S (tailwheel way back like an Army blackhawk) will land at the angle.
If you ever opt to build a flight II DDG with the hangar open, the helo goes in nose-first with the back end toward the back end of the ship.
You ship is beautiful and really well done, especially for your first shot at it!
