Revell 1/48 F/A18E Super Hornet Looks Great!

I’ve been meaning to get a Hornet for a while and started reading reviews about different model company offerings. Read very nice reviews on the Revell 1/48 Super Hornet kit # 85-5850 so I headed over to Hobby Lobby armed with my 40% discount coupon and picked one up for about $13 and change. I opened the box when I got home and was pleasantly surprised to find things like crisp engraved panel lines, beautifully detailed wheel wells, a nice set of Aim 120’s, nicely detailed office and seat, flattened tires, detailed gears, great looking decal sheet and more. Looks like it will build great just OOB. I also read good reviews on the F-15E Strike Eagle which I can get with the disc. coupon for about $18 and change. Only negative thing I found about I is that no air to ground weapons are included. Can’t beat those prices nowadays.

There is a boxing that has A-G weapons but they are out of production and hard to find.

With the money you saved on both kits you can pick up the 1/48 Hasegawa US aircraft weapons set D which has more of the the late model air to ground stuff plus targeting pods.

Keep us posted. I saw the same model last night at our Hobby Lobby, which has just started carrying models in the last few weeks, so I may pick it up in the near future… Raymond

I have both of these in the stash. I’ve heard nothing but good reviews about them.

Dude, you read my mind! I have been searching for these sets that I also want to load up that Strike Eagle that I want to get.

I have built/am building the Revell F/A-18E and the F-15E. I built the Superhornet when I was first getting back into modeling a few years ago. I though it assembled very well and the detail was fantastic for a $20 kit. I remember, though, that the area where the nose section attaches to the fuselage was a little tricky. And the seam lines where the outer wing parts attach to the inner parts leave noticeable gaps that need to be filled.

I’m building the Strike Eagle now and it is also well detailed and fits together very nicely. Both kits have great cockpits in my opinion. Bought a bit of AM stuff for this one. Been taking progress pics and I’m going to start an In-Progress thread sooner or later.

The only thing wrong with that set is that Hasegawa did not include any CBU-87s with it, one of the most commonly used pieces of ordnance by USAF aircraft in combat in the 90s. If you want some of those in 1/48, you have to get the JASDF set???!!! Or take them from another kit, such as the Kinetic F-16, that has them.

Thanks for the info on the JASDF set, will check it out.
