Revell 1/48 EA-6A Wild Weasel is available for purchase

Hey gang,

just got a notification from Towerhobbies.com that the electronics warfare version of the Intruder is in stock. It is and it’s also available at megahobby.com.

Just thought I’d give a heads up for those who have been waiting for a 1/48 Intruder/Prowler/Wild Weasel to be back on the market. I ordered mine, so go get 'em.

I grabbed one over the weekend at a LHS that was having a sale (1/3 off!!!)… can you say happy camper!!! now to find some Vietnam markings for it…

Picked one up yesterday at the LHS. Quite a surprise to see it so I had to grab it!

Since you guys actually have it in your hands, how is it? How’s the level of detail? Raised or engraved panel lines? Is this a repop of the old kit or a new design?

-Fred

It’s a re-issue of the kit of late 80s/early 90s vintage IIRC. It has raised panel lines and loads of detail on the landing gear, cockpit, etc. -typical of RM kits of that period. When I compare it to my A-6E TRAM of original issue, the quality of molding looks older- some flash on the trees and some details not as crisp. My only real gripe (very minor) is that the Marine marking options are not for the prime unit that used these birds in combat over Vietnam.

Does that mean the two that I have in my stash has lost it’s value? [BH] Some on e bay were selling for an outrageous price in the past year.

Its the reissue of the original kit. The only difference is the canopy, the original was molded in a transparent gold.

As long as it’s got decent detail, I’ll take the raised panel lines. I guess, if it really bothered me, I could learn to rescribe. It’s probably about time that I added that skill to my arsenal, anyway.

Berny, Revell just knocked a leg out of your evil plans… no more ebay gouging (on this kit anyways) unless someone must have the original box…[:-,]

Fred, to my inexpert eye, the amount and quality of detail is more than decent, even with the raised panel lines. [swg]

Muhahahaha

I sold mine on evil bay for well over $100 a couple of years ago…

Glad to hear that, Stik [:)]. I wish Revell would release all the variations in 1/48.

But imagine a line up of Intruders and Prowlers, in 1/48 with Tamiya’s quality [party]. I’d pick 'em all up the day of release.

I found this older post using the search function since I just picked up the kit at my LHS. I was glad to have it again since I lost a load of kits during a move and this among them was one of my bigger regrets.

While the Black Box cockpit set has been mentioned elsewhere as OOP does anyone have a link to currently available goodies for this kit?

Thanks

I usually use Great Models site to see what goodies there are for a particular kit. If you click on the kit, there is a link to all avaiable accessories.

Although I’m not a jet guy (post-Korean War jets, that is) I’m looking forward to seeing this version of the Thud… I built the Monogram Thud way back in the day ( about 20 years ago) when I WAS a jet guy though… I got on a SE Asia camouflage kick back then and would grab the newest Monogram jet as soon as I saw one… I was doing an ANG F-84 that Dad had flown a few times and got hooked for a spell before I came back to my senses and went back to props, lol…

I painted about all of them in the SEA scheme, I think…

For those interested, here’s a review of the old Wild Weasel kit… Note the 1982 price…

Went by my LHS Saturday and picked this up. I’ve got plenty of WWII and current jets displayed around my house, so this will make a nice addition. I cannot wait to go home later today and start on this.

GOt mine, I may pick another up. I LOVE the A6
