G’Day
I just purchesed this kit on line and was wondering if anybody has built this one
Also dose anybody know of any good reviews for this kit, i have found some good reference sites for the B-17 i was just wondering if there are some in or out of the box kit reviews??
Thanks
Robert
Which one is that, the F or the G? Either way it builds into a pretty nice kit. The G has better interior detail and is originally a Monogram kit while the F was a pre merger Revell kit. The F was released just after the G in the 1970s. When the similarities in part design were seen at Monogram their comment to Revell was “don’t let it happen again”. Check my website under the Allies tab for a conversion project of the F to an E.
Hey Swanny
Thanks mate it is a G model…
Would u be the author of a few of the reviews that i have just been looking at???
Thanks Again
Robert
Could be, which ones are you looking at?
Hey wooty,
Just traded a B-17G kit at hyperscale, but before that did some research into the very same topic you’re considering now…I noticed reviews are hard to come by especially previews since the kit is older now and not too many are being bought or sold…however with that said i’ve seen one or two and they seem to state the kits builds up well with a lot of attention. There are considerations well attaching the wings since fit problems arise there. In addition, painting and installing the clear parts will be tricky…
Verlinden also has a aftermarket kit for it as well…

Hey Wooty,
I think this is the same kit:

The review is brief, but maybe this will help.
Take care,
Mark
Good luck building your Fortress. Keep us posted with progress pictures.

this was my first multi engine plane. The clear parts are indeed tricky. I used a liquid mask, which was really difficult. Goodluck on the kit, mate!
Hmmmm
The more i listen the more worried i get
This is my first Airplain in like 10 years and to look at all the post here makes me wonder if i am gonna be up to it .
Only one way to find out?
Thanks for every one sharing all this valuable info it will all contribute to the final product!!!
BTW I have just orded a 1/48 ICM WWII figures set to go with it.
Thanks Again
Robert
Hey wooty,
One last thing I wanted to mention. When I planned this build, I decided I would go with the olive drab overall insteand of bare metal. This also required picking up a set of AF decals…there are plenty by the way…since the box comes with markings for the ship in the bare metal finish…The reason I choose to stay away from bare metal is because of the inevitable need to use filler and some sanding…I’ve found that bare metal finishes like the ones by model master do not respond well to sanding and filler…However, I have read that alclad is much better…The bottom line was that since I have very little experience with bare metal finishes I wasn’t going to experiment on a kit that will already present other challenges…
My advice would be to go with an olive drab scheme and you’ll save yourself some additional concerns.
Good luck,
Doug
Wooty, I just happen to have the Zotz “Heavenly Bodies” set of decals in 48th scale. It is missing the set for the Memphis Belle, but is otherwise complete. I’d make you a heck of a deal on it if you’d like to have it. They are freaking LOVELY decals!

Hi All.
Better late than never I guess. I did the PM kit a few years ago. It is pretty much the same kit except for the tail turret. There is an article on it in our club web site. Feel free to have a look.
