Revell 1/32 Tornado

I just picked up an old 1/32 Panavia Tornado that was discounted at my local hobby store (box was open). It seemed to have all the parts and you can’t beat the price, 15 USD. I was hoping if anyone who has built this model could provide any tips or advice concerning the construction of this model?

Thanks,
wetmonkey

wow $15 what a result ,
I did have this kit but i gave it away , but if you need them I do have a set of Xtradecals if your doing a Brit version
Heres 2 links i found on the kit

I can beat that price!
I picked up that same 1/32 Revell Tornado at a K-Mart in 1995 for four bucks (USD)!
FOUR bucks! Something must’ve been wrong with that pricing…

It was an easy build, as I recall. Even the swing wings went together fine. The cockpit might be a bit sparse, but once you button it all up, it looks fine.

Looks like the decals on this or pretty old and killed. I’ll be needing some new ones. I’m not a fantatic about detail or correct markings but something that looks vaguely like TOrnado markings would be nice. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

hi mate got these spare any good
you can do a gulf war/ grey scheme or a green grey camo

I’ve built the RAF Gr-1 in 31 Sqn which was a squadeon at RAF Bruggen in the mid 1990’s,where i was based.
Great kit,Easy to build, good level of detail & accurate.
The cocktit is better for aftermarket seats & tub.(i built mine from the box.In hindsight,i will use a/m stuff in the next one.
The only area of concern is the mainmounts. The wheels could do with reenforcing & the wheelwells benifit from reenforcing (mine ‘fell out’ & had to be superglued.
The canopy does not work well with future.Mine went greyish.
Hope this helps,
Merv

I built this kit last year, i too used xtradecals for 617sqn RAF (dambusters).
Its a great kit with the only weak area is the undercarriage, the cockpit details are not bad OOB buti used the eduard set to busy it up, here is my online album of in progress pics and finished articles.

It’s cheap because if it weren’t, no-one who knows the aircraft would buy it. There are vast amounts of things wrong with the kit, the lack of detail in the cockpit & the terrible ‘seats’ (though you should see the ones in the Airfix F3!) being the least of your worries.
No intake trunking (so make blanks from tissue paper & white glue)
On the wings, the ‘swivelling’ pylons will break/fall off the first time you move them.
There are no wing void bags (the area of fuselage that the wings swing into should be sealed with rubber bags, I’ve yet to see a kit with them though
The rear fuselage, around the airbrakes, the shape seems too square & from memory the airbrakes are the wrong shape.
Yes, the landing gear is very fragile, as well as being only accurate in a so so manner. Drill it out & put stiff wire inside, a long L shape for the main gear so you have axles for the wheels. The wheel bays are very plain, on the real thing they’re crammed full of stuff, same for the nose gear bay.
You may as well make blanks for the jetpipes too, again, they’re made from a plastic material on the real thing, so tissue paper will do it.
Study every photo you can before you build, spend lots of time, & it could be worth it!
I’ve got the later issue of this one in my stash, maybe I’ll get around to it someday.
Me?, I spent 5 1/2 years working on them in the RAF, England & Germany, so I hope I know what I’m talking about.
Good luck
Pete
