Revell 1.32 Me 109 K4 Complete 30/07/09

Hi to you all again.

Its not long since I finished my Revell 1.32 Mk 22-24 Spitfire and I didn’t want to waist anytime so I’ve got my teeth stuck into this one. I’ve seen a lot of 109’s on this forum before and all of them are pretty much well, fantastic. I haven’t built a 109 to this scale before, the only one I’ve built was an Academey 1.72 G10 I think, it was a while ago. I’m not adding anything to this build apart from the cockpit seat straps so everything you will see is OOB.

As I’m going along if you see anything that is majorly wrong or theres something I can improve on then please let us know. All of your comments are very welcome and thats how I improve with age.

Looking good so far. Keep us posted!

Matt

Nice cockpit. Keep us posted on your build!

Hi all,

I’ve just been doing some touches up on the cockpit and I’ve done the pilot figure although he wont be used in the finishing produt. I think its gone well considering the lack of time I’ve got at the minute.

I must apologise now if the wrong colours or shades have been used on anything. I’ve gone by the colour rec on the sheet and I know that Revell have cocked it up from time to time.

If I can do anymore today I will and hopefully post some more later on today. I’m enjoying this build alot and I hope it carries on that way!!!

As always comments are very welcome.

Take care

The original c1968 Revell 32nd gustav fomented my love of the type when I was a mere lad. It’s blunted sleekness and pragmatic archetecture siezed my imagination. Revell has come a long way since the Fritz & gustav, I love that there’s a 3D throttle quadrant in there instead of the low relief thing thats attached to the port framing of the old kit. Does it include a powerplant, or weapons?. For my cockpits I use “Krylon” charcoal grey primer its a good match for RLM black grey, not to mention very convieniant, a coat of satin clear acrylic holds it down nicely. Some PE in the office would spruce it up nicely.

Hi all,

I’ve managed to get some work done on my 109 K4. Its been hard to get anything done over the past few weeks or so but I’ve dropped everything just to get a couple of hours work in.

Hope you all are well

Post more soon (I hope)

Lenny - Terrific work you have done so far. [^][tup] How does the pilot “nestle” in the office ? Nice to see a WIP of one of the Revell 'Big Scales" here on the forum… I like to build a kit OOB after everytime I build one loaded with P/E to keep my sanity…

Thanks Sean, I’m leaving the pilot out his office on this one, I did him on a saturday at work to keep me sane!!! I’ve never done any PE and would love to have a go at it. It can be very difficult to get hold PE parts around Manchester with out getting ripped off. I hold my breath and wait to get some.

Hi all,

Yes I know another one but as this is my first time doing this model on this scale I had to share with you all. Overall I enjoyed the build and to be honest I didn’t have any real problems with ill fitting parts or anything. I really did enjoy it [:)]

I’ve noticed before I posted this that Mike has posted his 109 and my word what a build Mike, really well done mate. Me, well I did my best [:)] After the airbrushing and the matt finish I decided to try and do a little bit more to it than I normally do. I was looking at a video on youtube and Brett Green was using oil based paints for the panel lines and so forth so I went and had ago. Some of it looks ok and I know I’ve over done it on other bits but hey its my first time [:o)]

Hope you like the pictures and please if you have any comments or pointers then they are always read and taken onboard.

Take care all

Lenny, thanks for the compliments on my 109, but yours ain’t no slouch either!

You did a great job capturing the hard demarcation lines found on most K’s, the whole paint job in general really looks good. I really like that panel line treatment on the lower wings too, very realistic!

Mike

Wow that turned out really cool! Looks just like what I imagined! Very great work! [tup]

Thanks guys for your comments. I’m jumping in again with another project which I started sometime ago. Look out for a ‘nice pair of jugs’ two P-47’s coming soon.

The 109 will be on the side for awhile in full view.

Thanks again

Lenny[tup]

Well done Lenny! As was said before, you did an excellent job capturing the essense of the late-war Luftwaffe hard-edged camo. Only thing I can see that detracts from the build is the silvering on some of the decals, most notably the wing crosses. Some decals solvent such as micro sol would help pull those decals down to the surface. Other than that, an excellent build to be proud of. [^]

Thanks Frank for your comments and I will get to work on the decals on my next build. Decals seem to be the pain in my ar*e and I’ve tryed hard to get away from the silvering. I’ve not heard of micro sol before. Is there a brand over in the UK simular or do you know if its sold over here. What does it do exactly? I did see a video on youtube and a guy called Brett Green used something which he said makes the decals bubble a bit but settles down after a few minutes. Would this be a simular product?

Any heads up on this would be great. Thanks again Frank for your comments.

Take it easy

Lenny[tup]

Hi Frank,

I should of checked before asking. They do micro sol over here and I’m going to order me some next week and give it ago. Thanks for the pointer.

Lenny[tup]

Glad to help Lenny. [tup] If you are ordering the micro sol, do yourself a favor and get some of the micro set as well. Use the “set” on the model before the decal goes down, and some more on top of the decal. let it set a while, then gently smooth the softened decal onto the surface. A little bit of the “sol” will help the decals conform to irregualr surfaces, and give them that painted-on look. HTH!

Nice job Lenny! Your build has got me psyched up for my Me109 build (Revell 1/48) - my next kit. Half way through a P40B at the moment. I’ll watch that Brett Green video you mentioned…

Thanks Dobby, hope your 109 build goes well for you. Post some pics if you can of your progress, Id really like to see how you get on [:D]

Frank, I’ve found the Micro sol stuff on ebay[}:)] a set of five and not bad priced either. I shall invest next week when I’ve got a few pennies to spare.

Thanks again all of you [bow]

MS01 Micro Set
MS02 Micro Sol
MS07 Micro Mask
MS09 Kristal Klear
MS12 Micro Decal Film

Lenny[tup]

Perfect! I think you will love that stuff. [6]

Great job Lenny. The camo looks superb. As Frank said the wing crosses do let the build down a touch but im sure you will be able to remedy the situation with Set and sol. What id do is run a new scalpeltheough the decal 1st. Follow the lines of the cross so that the cuts arnt visible and then when you hit it with the sol it will get under the decal without any probs. Ive done the same thing before with good results. In future, just spray the markings on. Those crosses are simple to spray.

Im from the UK as well as your good self and i buy most of my modelling stuff from www.hannants.co.uk or ebay. Hannants have a huge selection of modelling gear. They just take a while to post it.
