Revell 1/32 Hawker Typhoon

Hello everyone,

I bought this old kit on eBay several years ago, and finally got aroung to finishing it. It is OOB, and I much enjoyed not fiddling around with PE and fitting resin parts, although I did make some seat belts with tape and PE buckles from my spares box and some aftermarket decals as the others were too fragile.

Thanks

Rob

Not what I expected from the title, but it’s still a great build of the most interesting looking of RAF a/c.

Well done!

Gary

Title now edited! Don’t know what I was thinking!

That’s a huge bird. Nice work.

BK

Sweet looking Tiffie. Excellent work on it.

Well done.

That is a cracking job! In this scale you really get to appreciate how basic, rugged and functional this aircraft was.

Coming in late, I’m curious as to what the original thread title was… [:)][:)]

This is a nice solid build!

That is a biggy isn’t it. Nice looking build.

Have not been a big fan of the aircraft but the more and more I see it the more and more I like. And I like that one. Under the heading of “What did you learn today?” I had no idea that it had door access. I just figure sliding canopy like most others.

Very cool! I love the photo in your hand to show just how honkin’ big the thing is!!!

I had to laugh when RAF officers first saw the P-47 and thought us Yanks were crazy for building something insanely big and heavy and that it’d never work as a fighter. Well, the Typhoon/Tempest isn’t much smaller than a P-47!

This is a big model, but pales in comparison to the 1/32 Me 110 I’m starting!

Rob

I’m slowly building one of these for someone now and it’s giving me fits. A lot of sanding, and putty so far, but it’s coming along. Your’s looks awesome.

Thanks! I found the fit not to be great, especially the junction of the rear fuselage part of the one piece lower wing with the main fuselage. There is a big step that was a big problem to fix, and on mine, is still there, but rounded and smooth. I also found that one side of the fuselage was at least 1 mm longer than the other. Good luck with your build

Rob

Although you had problems with the fit, i couldn’t tell by the pics. Beautiful job !

May I ask how you achieved the rusty look on the exhausts ? It looks so realistic !

I have two, and a Tempest in my stash, one Typhoon will be added to locomotive dio I’m dreaming of, the other will be on the ramp with the Tempest. Where did you find the 1/32 photo etch? Gorgeous build by the way.

Thanks, Jay!

I just lightly smeared the steel colour with Tamiya rust powder- it comes in a make-up light kit, with a make-up type applicator, kind of greasy, then used the soot powder in the same kit

Hello Armornut,

I didn’t use PE for this kit, just some left over belt buckles from a 109 kit.

I really want to build these larger kits but I just don’t have room to display them. Being a detail freak I could go completely nuts on these larger birds.

BK

That looks really good. I picked one up on evilbay not too long ago and have the correct resin seat for it along with pe belts.
