I bought this old kit on eBay several years ago, and finally got aroung to finishing it. It is OOB, and I much enjoyed not fiddling around with PE and fitting resin parts, although I did make some seat belts with tape and PE buckles from my spares box and some aftermarket decals as the others were too fragile.
Have not been a big fan of the aircraft but the more and more I see it the more and more I like. And I like that one. Under the heading of “What did you learn today?” I had no idea that it had door access. I just figure sliding canopy like most others.
Very cool! I love the photo in your hand to show just how honkin’ big the thing is!!!
I had to laugh when RAF officers first saw the P-47 and thought us Yanks were crazy for building something insanely big and heavy and that it’d never work as a fighter. Well, the Typhoon/Tempest isn’t much smaller than a P-47!
I’m slowly building one of these for someone now and it’s giving me fits. A lot of sanding, and putty so far, but it’s coming along. Your’s looks awesome.
Thanks! I found the fit not to be great, especially the junction of the rear fuselage part of the one piece lower wing with the main fuselage. There is a big step that was a big problem to fix, and on mine, is still there, but rounded and smooth. I also found that one side of the fuselage was at least 1 mm longer than the other. Good luck with your build
I have two, and a Tempest in my stash, one Typhoon will be added to locomotive dio I’m dreaming of, the other will be on the ramp with the Tempest. Where did you find the 1/32 photo etch? Gorgeous build by the way.
I just lightly smeared the steel colour with Tamiya rust powder- it comes in a make-up light kit, with a make-up type applicator, kind of greasy, then used the soot powder in the same kit
I really want to build these larger kits but I just don’t have room to display them. Being a detail freak I could go completely nuts on these larger birds.
