Revel Ford Gt Le Mans 2017

Thanks, I’m happy with it so far even though a bunch of detail I worked on isn’t visible

I haven’t set the body on yet to see how it fits but almost every body I’ve worked with is a very tight fit so once it’s on its on. Additionally I’m the only one that looks at these things anyways

Are you going to start a thread on it?

I was going to paint the body with my Tamiya acrylic but decided against it, I ordered some Tamiya rattle can polycarbonate paint instead so this project is a week out. Local shop has it for 8$ a can but I ordered it from hobbylinc for 7$ a can and picked up a few for some other projects coming up. The Mr. Hobby super gloss is out of stock pretty much everywhere, not sure what’s going on with that……Suppose I’ll start something else to keep me busy in the meantime.

I ordered the paint from hobbylinc as it was a buck a can cheaper than local and other options, picked up several cans and a kit that was on sale. Ordered January 18th, shipped January 24th and supposed to be delivered the 30th…then February 1st and as of 5pm isn’t out for delivery yet. My god I would have gladly paid the extra 10 bucks plus gas to get it a few towns over….so here I sit…. Waiting…

Needless to say…. It never arrived and now tracking says “ moving through network” USPS is so frustrating most of the time.

Paint finally arrived, and due to weather I had the day off, I shot the red with a few coats and looked at it a bit later, look at that!!! One of my wife’s beard hairs was stuck in the paint!!! Ok it was mine……( my wife really doesn’t have a beard…) anyways, pretty bummed out. I’m letting that sit and I’ll sand it down this weekend. But I figured I’d shoot the white as well and….well… it beaded up in a few spots. What a day. This is my second go with Polly paint and I read that priming wasn’t necessary, maybe I read that wrong, never had any issues with acrylic or enamel beading up but I always used primer. Maybe too thick of a coat?

Ok so did I bit of reading which I should have done before hand but the Tamiya polycarbonate paint is specifically for lexan bodies, well damn. Lesson learned. A bit of a setback but salvageable non the less, I’ll get the correct paint coming and work on sanding the body down. But I’m glad I started looking into it even though it was too late because I almost shot the duster body with it as well.

Oof, that is a setback. Sorry to hear of the paint issues. Persevere!

I noticed you said sand off. I assume that since it’s not an acrylic, you can’t just use alcohol or some other solvent to remove the paint without risking the plastic, eh?

That’s a good point, I’ll have to look into that. That’s what I get for venturing out from my normal acrylic and trying something new without reading up on it, anyways thanks for bringing that up I hadn’t thought about that.

I know I’ve used Pine-Sol to remove Enamels in the past. I remember seeing people using Power Purple and even oven cleaner to remove paint. Any idea of what kind of paint that stuff is?

It’s a “ solvent based lacquer “ is what I found on the web. And it’s made to bind with lexan, says it will straight up melt plastic models so I guess as of right this moment things are looking pretty good for me giving what I did

I didn’t bother trying to remove the paint, I wet sanded it starting at 1000 and down to 3000 then sprayed it with tamiya fine primer. So far so good.

Works been crazy the last several weeks, 65-70 hrs so the Sunday schedule is recouping, nascar cup race, bbq/smoke/grill time and making sure my family is still at the house :joy: I’ll sit down soon and hopefully finish at least one of my 3 WIP’s.

Take it easy and remember that your health/sanity comes first then family. Modeling can wait until you’re “recharged” Your progress on this build is amazing and I’d hate to see you try to squeeze in some bench time when your mind isn’t in it.

Great kit, and wonderful progress Demo… I almost purchased that kit, but went with the kit below. Looking forward to seeing the end result of your work.

Looking good. Polycarbonate paint is a pain, as you found out. Used to paint the inside of rc cars lexan bodies. The inside of the car looks like crap, but once you pull the plastic protection of the exterior of the body it is nice and shiny. I have been looking at purchasing this kit as well.
