Hello from Upstate South Carolina. I started building scale models as a kid in the 1970’s. I started with cars, but quickly branched out into aircraft and warships. I got pretty heavy into it, winning 3rd place in a local contest once as a teenager. But as I “grew up” I got busy with education, family, career and many other hobbies. Sadly, my original collection succumbed to handsy younger cousins, moves, and the passage of time. Every so often I’d dabble, but I never really did much. A recent injury has left me with some time to reflect and insufficient ability to pursue woodworking, 1:1 cars, and other things for a while. So I dusted off a partially finished model to re-introduce myself to the hobby.
Back when I owned a 1:1 1998 Mustang Cobra, I picked up the AMT 1:25 1997 version to make a scale copy. I built the engine, painted the body (badly, subsequently stripped back to plastic), and assembled and a few other parts, but lost interest. I’ve decided to finish this build as a re-start. I plan to push myself to add as much detail as I can, just to see if I’ve still got a steady hand. But it will no-doubt challenge me. One thing I’ll have that my kid version didn’t is a helpful, experienced community like this. I’m very glad to be here.
Welcome back, we’ve missed ya! I think we’ve all been down that road at one time or other.
I’m glad that you decided to have another go and so far, that V8 is looking sharp!
Looking forward to seeing more progress pics!
Happy Modeling,
Mike
Welcome back to the hobby John. You’re off to a brilliant start on that 4.6 liter with the detailing and light wear effects.
A lot of us here did things pretty similar with starting off in the hobby, having to leave it for a while and coming back later. LOTS has changed in the past 20 or so years and now even more so with things like 3D printing. There’s a whole world in miniature now at our fingertips.
Welcome back to the hobby and to the forum. Your Mustang is a great way to get the old juices flowing again. I’m a bit of a Mustang fanatic myself, and can’t wait to follow along with your progress. The motor looks great by the way! Best of luck on the build.
