For sure!!!
Looks awesome! I wish the kit I was working with didn’t have windows haha. There’s like three, but it is smaller so it shouldn’t be too bad lol
Update about the GB, per request of @keavdog, and also myself haha, the group build will now have an end date of June 12, 2026, which is the maiden flight of the 777! Hopefully this will give you more time to knock out projects!
Nice! What decals are you planning to do?
No such thing as an ugly Connie livery. Even the military EW variants are cool looking.
Agreed, Even bare nekkid she’s pretty…
I was fortunately enough to work at TWA when they repainted the Save A Connie to the actual TWA livery.
.
This will probably be what I build for this group build.
The Connie build is coming along pretty well. The fuselage windows are in, the fuselage is closed up. The nose and canopy are attached. There two ridges at the wing roots on the fuselage that need to be sanded down to get the right amount of dihedral when the wings are attached. Tomorrow I will be taking care of seams then attaching the wings. This is a very simple build. I’m really enjoying the time spent building.
The Eastern Express B747SP is fiendishly complex by comparison. I had a look in the box last night and started putting the wheel wells together. So far so good. Pics to follow. I did an internet scrub and found out someone makes 3-D printed flaps and slats, but I think I’ll keep it simple!
See? I’m learning already.
I have a minicraft 1/144 super g about 90% done. Going with the TWA livery - just awesome.
I’ve done one as an EC-121R
And I have 2 more in the stash - so ya, a fan.
More progress on the Connie. Today was filling and sanding. Nor too bad, mostly on the fuselage. Some panel line rescribing needs to be done. All the windows and canopy are filled ans smoothed. The decals will have the fuselage windows and cockpit glass. So far, this has been a fun build. The kit comes with two noses, the 1049 nose and the 049 nose. I just might get another Connie kit when I go to Modelpalooza so I can build an early C-69. I’ve been looking for a photograph of the first C-69 delivered with AAF camo on the left side and TWA livery on the right side.
That repaint of the Connie is so cool, what a great choice.
Hey y’all! It’s been a while since anyone’s posted anything, so I just wanted to check in and see how your builds are going!
I started dry-fitting my L-100 and the fits a little shady, so I’m waiting on some putty in the mail. My decals still haven’t come since I ordered them, so hopefully the come soon!
I too have been chiseling away at my model.
The fuselage bows in a bit where the wings mate, so some spreader bars were added. I think the wings also need a spar to set the correct dihedral. There are still gaps at the fuselage to wing joints, but they are much smaller now.
Being a limited run kit, some locator tabs are DIY, but no big deal. Directions scribbled onto the parts help avoid putting things in the wrong way.
The fin needed a spacer to ensure a proper fit to the rear fuselage, again not a big deal.
I am in the process of gluing the flying surfaces together now. Once the wheel well openings are cleaned up and ballast added to the nose, the wings will be attached to the fuselage to make it look like a proper 747.
These bad boys came in the mail today! Finally have a decent side profile view as a reference too! I was worried about not having a good ref, so I didn’t work on the kit that much for a while.
I’m a little behind the curve here. I’m getting near paint for the Connie and I’m still waiting for decals, so progress has been kinda slow. I’ll have some photos up soon.
This might actually make me get it together and get my Northwest 747-400 going, gonna use the 1/144 Revell kit
Awesome! I’ll put you down on the list!
Connie Update:
Was out at the paint bench this morning. Wanted to beat the rain and get the Connie primered. Mr Surfacer 1500 thinned 1-1 with leveling thinner. As usual, the primer laid down nicely. I’ll let the Connie sit for a day or two so the primer is well cured. After that I’ll shoot either AK or Alclad Polished Aluminum.
