During the past year and a half I have been restoring vintage Aurora Monster models. I would like to know if anyone has done restoration on any other kind of model. I find that it takes more work than a kit out of the box. Some of the models take me 20-40 hours to restore.I try to make all the models 100% vintage.For this modeler someones trash is gold to me. I only have one that I have thought about doing anyhting to. It is a replica of my grandfathers Nascar from 1952 and I built “showroom” new. I would like to make it more realistic with the damage and all from pics I have but the sentimental value keeps me from even pulling the cover off the case. If I could only find another kit of it I would do another, but I got lucky and my dispatcher had one in his attic for years and sold it to me for what he gave for it , $2.But if anyone knows where I could get a 40 Ford coupe with the slanted rear or it may be a 37 , it would be nice to get ahold of it.
hi dale, i agree , there seems to me to be more of a challeng to 're-build 'something someone has trashed. i’ve also gotten alot of ‘junk’ off ebay,everytime i get one my wife says ,what do you want with that peice of sh&*. she doesnt see what i see.
We are cleaning out my mother’s house. I found a 1/40th Revell T34/85 I built over 40 years ago. I painted the extra tracks on the front, and the machine gun and then stuck the decals on. The vinyl track has a couple of links broken off. I’m thinking about redoing it. Since then, I found the Sherman, a couple of jeeps and several sets of figures to go with the tanks. Brings back a lot of memories.
I think the price of that old kit can be better then some new kits. I try to find a lot of Aurora models (AS IS) missing parts. I keep all the parts till I get the whole model. I find it’s fun just looking at the kits that some kid trashed. When I restore the model I try to keep something that the person did or age did to the model. I try to send the seller a pic of what I restored.
