Resin Question Resource?

Where can I get answers to all my resin questions? A web site, book, or magazine?

My LHS guy knows a little about resin but has never done anything in it so he’s not a good source. I’d like to know stuff like…

What is CA?
What paint works best?
Does Future work with it?
Are major techniques the same?

Just general duhh questions.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Can’t think of any “one stop” source for all the info, but all the answers can probably be found right here on the forums.

Starting with your first questions

  • CA is Cyanoacrylate glue, aka super glue, crazy glue, etc. Most common amongst modellers is a product called Zap-A-Gap. You will need to use CA glue or Epoxy glues to work with resin.
  • Any model paint works on resin parts. One thing to keep in mind though is that you need to wash the parts to remove any release agent that may be left on them. Priming is suggested, but I’ve had good success without priming.
  • Yup, Future works well
  • Major techniques are much the same

Couple of extras now

  • resin produces a fine dust when sanded that can be harmful to you. You should always wear a mask when sanding.
  • resin parts generally have large carriers (much like sprue but bigger) that are best removed with a razor saw.
  • often there is warpage in resin parts and it is easily corrected with warm water or a blow dryer.
  • resin parts are more brittle then plastic parts, so be gentle

Any more questions, fire them our way and we’ll see how we can help.

Thanks shermanfreak I will.

Paddywagon,

Probably one of the best sources of information for you problem is Swanny.
