Can you guys tell me where I can get resin casting supplies quickly? I’m on vacation and I need to cast a part. I need to get everything: RTV, mold release, resin and cataylist(sic?), ect? Thanks in advance.
Don’t know how quickly you need it, but I order all my supplies from Vagabond. Pretty decent prices, great products, and quick shipping. Here is their website.
Where are you? Maybe posters can tell you where a well stocked hobby shop is located
lol, read the tag under his avatar, he thinks he’s somewhere on Earth. Shouldn’t be too hard [:D]
Ok, seriously, if you’re on vacation, you may not be able to wait, but as HeavyArty said, you can order it, then just pay exhorbitant prices for a fast delivery.
Ask around for industrial material suppliers, well stocked hobby centres, or art supply and specialist stores.
If you’re anywhere near a major city, none of the products you’re looking for should be too difficult to find. Michaels carries about half of what you’re looking for, and if they’re a particularily well stocked Michaels, they may have everything.
If you have a Hobby Lobby nearby, they sell the complete Alumilite casting sets for $65. It sounds like a lot, but they also have 40% off any one item coupons. I used them to stock up on casting supplies.
Hey I was thinking about trying one of these sets out myself. But never made anything myself out of resin. How hard is this to do? Such as making molds and so on?[?]
Making molds and casing isn’t hard at all. There was an article in FSM by Matt Usher a year ago that showed how to do it and all about it. Great beginner’s article. May '05 issue.
Here is an article by Keith Magee at Armorama as well.
