Request help for a custom color

Hello all,

I am planning a 1/16 Charger build. Being a fan of blue, on the darker side, so that’s what I’ve been looking at, whether I’m driving by a vehicle, or walking by one, I stop and look. Came across the color I would like on FB. It’s on a 1973 De Tomaso Pantera called "Showdown. The color of course is custom, from House of Kolor. Name of the color is Blu Bye-You Blu Bye You Candy. This is such a stunning color to me I can’t believe it. even a picture of the pain in the can is beautiful. I have never done mixing before like this and TBH, don’t even know where to start. I build warships, military aircraft and Star Wars stuff. Here’s an 11 second clip of the Pantera. Any help on how to achieve this is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

How can you not like that colour? Wow. I’m not sure I can help, but I do wish you luck. I do seem to recall that there are some modellers who use actual HoK paint on their cars, so maybe that’s an option? Again, not sure where or how to source that, or even what kind of paint it would be, but that may get you started.

You might look at Turbo Dork’s line of paints to see if there is something close that you might be able to tint.

Thanks, Frozin. I toyed with that thought briefly, but dismissed it thinking “Nah, a company that does this sort of work wouldn’t bother with a line of their paints for folks like us.”.
I’ll have to poke around.

To my eye, that shade tends toward Prussian blue. Maybe that will help get started.

looks like the paint in the can is Seductive Blue by Tropical Glitz and they do offer smaller quantities aimed towards model builders

Depending on your abilities, equipment and willingness to try something new, you might also want to check out the nail polish aisle in your local beauty and drug stores. The colour ranges are absolutely massive, with many unique colours, pearls, metallics, etc. Though I’ve never done it, I’ve seen a number of car kits finished with nail polish. You will need to research more about thinning, priming and cleanup, but it gives you another option for possibly finding this colour or something very close.

Thank you for that link!

Thanks for the idea. Didn’t even cross my mind even though I’ve seen modelers use eyeshadow instead of weathering sets. Can get the whole rainbow and then some in one big set, and usually less expensive than a model company’s stuff.
