There are 2 ways to reply. The blue reply box is to reply to the thread and provides a general response to the topic. The button you highlight and that I am pointing to in the image below allows you to respond to a specific comment on the thread. Responding this way will show who you are responding to in the upper right hand corner of your response once it is posted. I hope this helps.
To echo @dadoffour, Mark, you just click that " Reply" and what you post should have the tag. I used that to reply to you, so this post should have the “ MisterMeester” in the upper right corner!
Edit: Well, it’s not there after I clicked “Reply” (to post my reply), so I don’t know. I’ve seen it work in other threads, though, so maybe it only shows up if the original post is far enough away it’s necessary to have that upper right corner link…? That’s how I’ve used it, clicking on the “ (user)” would take me to the original post. Hmmm. WE NEED MORE POSTS HERE SO WE CAN DOUBLE-CHECK THIS THEORY!
Edit 2: What’s really weird is that I just replied to Mark in another thread and the tag is there!
Clicked the reply symbol in lower right corner of @dadoffour ‘s comment. Hmmmm. I wonder if it depends on the device. Going to try a little test. On an iPad now. Will try PC in a bit.
ETA: Okay, that worked! That’s the first time that has worked for me. Not sure what I might have done right this time, or was doing wrong before.
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I think I got it now. Not sure why it wouldn’t work for me before. As far as I can tell it’s a simple procedure and I’m not doing anything different now than before.
Again with it not working. Just tried replying to a post in another thread and it didn’t work. I give up. Just going to go with the other options, henceforth.
It’s not hard. Hit the black arrow at the bottom right of a post and a reply box pops up. Enter your comment and hit the reply button on the bottom left. Easy peasy
@Mainly-Moose That’s exactly what I’m doing. Hasn’t worked for me in any other thread but this one. Multiple tries and multiple fails. Not easy peasy. At least not to this reasonably intelligent guy.
Seriously, it stinks when things don’t work correctly. Are you using a computer with the Windows operating system to post? (I think you mentioned on one post that you were trying it on an I-Pad.) Just trying to pinpoint where the issue is coming from…
I’m stumped too. It’s clear to me now that I know how to do it, so I figure it must be a glitch. Why just me, though? Weird.
Anyway, not a big deal. Just annoying.
That is very possible. And you may have stumbled across a bug with the forum’s software. Pinging @Tim_Kidwell1 in this reply to call his attention to the issue.
One thing I’ll add is there is a FSM app for android devices that works really well, iso/Apple users can use the Discorse app which is pretty finicky on mobile devices or you can use the web.
There’s a bunch of “if this then that” here. Regardless, these suppress how much “stuff” appears on everyone’s feed. When you start turning them off, you’ll notice that things get cluttered/busy fast. So, I don’t think we’re looking at a bug so much as posts need to meet certain requirements for certain things to show up. The replies are still pinging to the OP you’re replying to, even if you don’t @ them. It’s just that the tag doesn’t always show up.
That said, we can experiment with tweaking things, but if it’s not an improvement for everyone’s experience, I’m not going to start tinkering.
And yes, I purposely posted so the tag would show in the top of my post as an example.
